I have been working at SkyWest Airlines full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I like working for a smaller company. 2 years in and I have a decent schedule, I can still me a mom and have another job. Our salaries are high for a regional carrier.

    Cons

My only complaints, the pay will never be high as a mainline airline.

    Advice to Management

We have great flight benefits but they can be better on our own metal.

    Pros

Lots of time and a half because they are constantly giving employees near 100 flight hours a month and it's just too many hours.

    Cons

Health insurance is around 175-200 a month for PPO and you still run into out of network issues. The overnights are not fun, rarely near anything to do.

I worked at SkyWest Airlines full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Travel was okay but forced to fly standby which often meant a day or two getting from one destination to another.

    Cons

Training is a joke with zero simulators or real hands on training. Valid questions are dismissed, and everything seems to be a big secret. Seniority has no rhyme or reason. Performance is ignored. Shocked that they are continuing to hire many who are so large that they don't fit in jumpseat or that can walk forward down the aisle. Many instructors/coworkers are moody, and there is an unhappy atmosphere throughout. Bases can be assigned anywhere from 2 weeks before end of training to a month following training, so this is one job that costs you money the first few months. And continues to keep you in the negative if you have a life. Then expect the worst possible base assignments. They absolutely do not care about you as a real person. Reserve is dealing with mostly tiny planes puddle jumping for hours on end. A lot of work for very little pay.

    Advice to Management

Hire professional educated teachers that have experience teaching to teach classes. Reduce unnecessary initial lengthy training to 3 weeks, and require a positive upbeat staff or clean house. Teach real world skills needed to do the job, and stop treating staff like small children. Update uniforms to reflect today's fashion. Clean up the mess. Hire new management and get organized. Hire competent flight attendants instead of hiring just anyone who applies.
