    Pros

Benefits with up to 4 airlines depending on base. Highest regional pay across the board. Management that actually cares.

    Cons

You are on reserve until you are senior enough not to be. Regional pay is lower than mainline.

    SkyWest Airlines Response

Thank you for your 5+ years of working with SkyWest! We do have some incredible benefits at SkyWest and were glad to see that our flight attendants recently ratified a new pay agreement that places them at top of scales in the regional industry. We love that you are enjoying being part of our strong company culture and plan on working at SkyWest for years to come. We really do have an incredible team.

Good company to start your airline career*

    Pros

New pay is good. Fun crew. Most captains I have flown with so far are awesome, learned so much from them. You will be flying in west coast this week and going to east coast the next because of the amount of flying we do. If you want to go to Southwest eventually this is the place to be Training department is great. So far the instructors I met are knowledgeable and they do want you to succeed here so they will work with you as long you have a good attitude. Lot of pros and cons, but I’m mostly happy here so far.

    Cons

Morale is low. Hot pilot job market now so FOs are bailing for LCCs. Lack of qualified FOs to upgrade so if you stay and upgrade your schedule will suck. The unofficial metering with the legacies doesn’t help with this either. Non union, the upside of this is the company does try to do just enough to keep a union off property. Market dependent I’d say. 401k now vested over 4 years for new hires. Crew support sometimes has too much power over you. They can and will exploit any grey area in the policy and interpret it in their favor. What are you gonna do? File a grievance? Need a union to do that buddy.

    Pros and cons

    Pros

You will meet great people, our crews stay together the whole trip and that can mean fun layovers. The flight/nonrev benefits are great. A lot of people at this company are super helpful, use them as a resource. Its a great company to start you flight attendant career.

    Cons

My bigest con is the pay. it is hard for first year FA so don't quit any second job you have because you will need it. I wouldn't recommend staying at this company too long if money is a concern for you (and I say that because some people do this job just for the benefits and actually having a time/day off to enjoy those benefits. however, others have bills to pay and/or a family to feed.) overall it depends on what your definition or view of quality of life is.

    Pros

Great training culture. I really felt welcomed in training and felt prepared for the job. Got to make lifelong friends and experience new places and different cities. Was able to get a feel of what a bigger airline would be and allowed me to get my foot in the door. I've met some of the greatest people here and would do it again

    Cons

Very non flexible schedule. The company never really does anything for the benefit of the employee. Seniority is a big characteristic and senior people definitely take advantage. No union

Terrible pay. Bad QOL after Covid.

    Sep 29, 2022 - Flight Attendant

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Best reasons to work there… before covid it was easy to grow in seniority, so you could hold a line, not work weekends, or pretty much manipulate your schedule. After covid it is no longer this way. They do offer pretty good flight benefits but you won’t make enough for at least 5 years to enjoy them, unless you have a significant other to help, or whomever you are giving heavily discounted flights to, they are paying for hotels, etc. Now it’s hard to drop trips, or get anyone to pick them up for money to give you enough time for traveling.

    Cons

Training was something else! They treat you like your at boot camp. They will try to put the fear of god in you, saying people are watching your every move. You will be on probation for a year. You will work sometimes up to 16 legs on a 4 day trip on a freezing or super hot crj 200 as the only FA, saying very long announcements, every flight. You will have to be up 1 morning at 3am, working all day, than the next day on the trip, it may start at noon or 3pm, & you’ll work till say midnight, usually on your last day of a 4 day trip you will get minimum rest (10 hrs) after working 14. You can have 3 hr sits (not paid) delays, maintenance etc.. you will work say 10 hrs & get paid for 5. 4 day trips are 80ish hrs away from base, you will be paid for 17-21 hrs, plus $2. Per Diem (about $160. Not taxed) your sleep and diet will suffer.

    Not what it once was.

Oct 13, 2022 - Pilot in Saint Paul, MN

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Probably still the best regional to work for. More bases than any other regional. Travel benefits are still very good, but flights are full and very hard to use them. Still some great people.

    Cons

Not what it once was. The "family" company vibe is gone. Pilot pay got a huge boost, but only because of market forces, NO quality of life improvements. Forced upgrades with zero regard for people with children or family with medical issues, class dates given with 2 weeks notice to arrange for childcare or elder care while you are gone for weeks. Automation of HR aspects makes it feel very cold, and the automation often doesn't work correctly. Some bases have very little variety in flying, LONG sits in your flying day at airports, extending a short 4 leg day to 12-13 hours. No flexibility in schedule, long days, short overnights, much lower hotel quality than in years past. One feels like little more than a commodity or a number here anymore, but that's probably how it is at any regional right now. There is a deep good ol boys club, very few if any women in management, none in upper management. The pilot "union" is provided and paid for by the company, requires non disclosure agreements, and has zero power. It is purely a figurehead for management, and also has no women. Short staffed in every department and struggling.

    Pros

Flexibility in schedule. Wide variety of domicile options. Short time on reserve. Flight crews are awesome.

    Cons

Low pay. Low trip credit. Recent shortages resulting in low credit/low paying trips that aren't commutable due to mixed pairings. Unable to retain flight attedants and pilots. No union.

    Great place to start

    Nov 6, 2022 - Station General Manager
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Great place to start An airline career, with plenty of opportunity. Great benefits, good people, wise leaders have kept airline strong and in the black through many challenging seasons. Consequently, Company provides good stability.

    Cons

Field stations typically consist of only one or two full-time employees/leaders. Everyone else is part time, making non-competitive wages. So turnover is high, Training is just as complex for part-time as full-time employees. Training employees, only to have them leave shortly after, is discouraging. Many station managers have had to operate for months without a second business owner to support them because supervisors are paid very poorly. Pilots and mechanics are hard to keep as major carriers offer more $$. As a result, flight disruptions due to crew shortages, and broken aircraft requiring longer waits to repair, are more common now. Service reliability remains a challenge.
