I have been working at Skyline Construction full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There is an abundance of work with limitless opportunity to gain experience. Great work culture with a welcoming staff. Even though everyone is busy, there is never a moment where a question cannot be answered or pointed in the right direction. Freedom to go out into the field and learn from Superintendents and field staff. Subcontractors will go out of their way to answer any questions you may have on their scope. Overall it is a great place to learn with confidence with great rewards. I am able to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn without anyone being answered rudely. Skyline is more of a family then a company.

    Cons

As PE's your schedule and to do items are subject to PM and APM's work order, which sometimes makes it difficult to plan out the week, however, this is a byproduct of a hot market.

    Advice to Management

Keep developing the career path and continue to hold training classes. As a new hire, it gives one a sense of confidence knowing your adding value to the project/ company/ goals.

Advice to Project Management: have more confidence in PE and PC's to delegate more advanced admin items to ease PM work load. Also, have a set day to debrief on the week and voice the plan for the following week. Set expectations, goals and milestones for your PE's and PC's

Advice to Upper Management: Continue to build on the Field Engineer idea. Being able to look at a set of drawings and apply it to the field makes a world of difference when submitting RFI's with clear questions to Architects and Engineers.

I have been working at Skyline Construction full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Long time employee of 10 years. I have seen this company grow to become one of the top tier commercial general contractors in the Bay Area while still able to maintain a feeling of family. You are not just a number here. Skyline truly cares about its employees, devoted to seeing each and every person succeed as that naturally translates into company success. Great leadership, great benefits, great people. It is easy to come to work every day.

    Cons

Absolutely nothing negative to say about Skyline.

I have been working at Skyline Construction full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The Bay Area TI world is competitive, and Skyline has done a great job in making their comp packages and perks very attractive. The ESOP is unique and attractive as someone who is looking for a long term home at a company.

    Cons

The company has grown tremendously in the last few years. As such, it is still learning how to manage itself as a large scale company in a lot of ways. They are making moves to standardize how everyone operates to make everything run more smoothly, however, it is definitely a work in progress.

Also, like any TI company in this market, there will be a lot of long days and nights. Unfortunately, that goes with the territory.

    Advice to Management

Continue to make efforts to manage the company in an organized and standardized way so there is less ambiguity about how we conduct ourselves from job to job and team to team.
