I worked at Skype full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

All the non-work related perks you can think of. Lunch, snacks, parties, celebrations, you name it...

    Cons

Very little satisfying engineering work to be done in the Palo Alto office combined with over-hiring makes for a depressed/bored workforce with a ridiculously high turnover rate.

    Advice to Management

Close that office down. I know you like the idea of having a presence in California/Silicon Valley but as an engineering office, it's pointless. Open yourselves a corporate corner in Microsoft's offices in Mountain View and leave it at that.

I have been working at Skype full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Microsoft's Skype office in Stockholm had a great team with fantastic colleagues to work with, working on a product that revolutionized communication.
Beautiful office with an open atmosphere.

    Cons

As with most acquisitions, Microsoft did in the long run a poor job in keep driving innovation and user value, and instead keeps people busy with integration projects and merging of tech-stacks.

    Advice to Management

Don't lay off an entire site of experienced software engineers, but find a new agenda for them instead - Microsoft has lots of work and unused opportunities ahead.

I have been working at Skype full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Microsoft has given us enough freedom to resurface; not being the leader has re-started innovation and energy in the engineering side.

    Cons

    Amount of legacy to rewrite

    Advice to Management

More freedom, better understanding of where everything is going

I worked at Skype full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Competitive salary per month
    Fully-equipped kitchen
    Free food (primarily unhealthy items)

    Cons

Taking into account that in this company, there are 320 working hours in month, not 160, salary does not seem to be that competitive anymore.

    Advice to Management

Co-located teams, better communication, more clear performance/bonus metrics.

    Pros

    High salary and good benefits.

    Cons

This is a management heavy company. Frequent reorgs and management changes (I've had 6 managers in 3 years) mean it is difficult to advance in the company or make significant gains in your field of expertise. I often attend planning meetings with me as the only developer and 4 managers in attendance meaning I have little leverage to push back on unachievable work commitments.

    Advice to Management

Management should take the side of employees and value them more as individuals. Senior leadership team is out of touch and surrounded by "yes men" which means positive change often never materialises.

    Pros

Smartest people on the market. Very cool and interesting projects, chance to work on very complex problems and deal with real challenges like no other company on the market. Cutting Edge technologies. Excellent salary and benefits package.

    Cons

    A bit of political atmosphere.
Re-orgs happen rather frequently and priorities tend to change often.

    Pros

Good competitive salaries. Microsoft Benefits package. Flexible Working hours. Access to various msft trainings, that lets you be updated.

    Cons

Growing big Corporate atmosphere, top level employee more interested to their salary than their job.

    Advice to Management

More offsites, more info's sharing, more presence in the office.

    Pros

You have a chance to work with smart people on a cool product. Cool brand name. Great benefits and really good work-life balance. Pay is good as well.

    Cons

Career opportunities in the Estonian office are limited. MS has introduced several layers or bureaucracy since it acquired Skype a few years ago. The base of innovation has slowed down.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of some of the middle-managers who don't seem to be doing much
