I have been working at Sleep Number by Select Comfort full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Make good money doing very little (if you are good at what you do). Store can be a relaxed fun place to be. Great product that makes it easy to sell. They do train and if you follow the process you WILL sell.

    Cons

Commission based sales so you need to be able to sell. You are expected to help bring in sales through follow-up calls and some call lists (maybe 100 calls a week). Like in all jobs there are good managers and bad ones. There are limits to how much you can make since the company determines sales goal and you are paid base on percent to goal.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to reward you best sales persons. I have seen so many VERY good sales people leave because they did not feel valued and because they were not able to continue to grow as store goal were increase above obtainable numbers or more people were brought into the store so they were not getting the time with customers to sell.

I have been working at Sleep Number by Select Comfort full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I'm a returning team member, or what you call a “boomerang.” I left the company for less than six months and had a grass is not greener experience. Thanks to the support of several leaders, I made my way back to Sleep Number in a different role – one that better fits my experience and skills.

There are a few reasons why I’d recommend Sleep Number as a great place to work:

    1. The work and projects I lead are pretty cool. I communicate about topics that span the entire organization, so I get to touch a little bit of everything. It means I build lots of relationships with talented people (cash in those favors later) and get brought into interesting projects from the start.

    2. My role is part of a larger connected strategy with innovation at the core, and that makes me feel like I do meaningful work. I had a moment today when meeting with a co-worker from a previous job where I truly felt like I’ve made an impact in the time I’ve been back. Sharing how much progress my team has made in just eight months made me proud.

    3. Our beds. Are. Amazing. The i8 changed my life. I daydream about sleeping, and it’s a known fact that my friends and family don’t bug me after bedtime. I experience firsthand how good sleep affects my overall well-being.

    Cons

Part of why I like retail is the pace. I’m never sitting at my desk wondering what to do next. BUT sometimes it can be overwhelming with new projects, while nothing seems to come off the list.

    Advice to Management

How can we as a company – and within smaller teams – go after what matters most? How can we push back and feel confident providing a thoughtful recommendation without fear that the advice won’t be well-received? How can we share information better to make everyone’s job easier? To shift this culture, we need everyone to link arms, be open to new perspectives, and change behaviors and mindsets. I’m confident we will.

Love the people and the culture. The mission-driven, customer-focused making a difference in the world is alive and well here. And I feel like my values match Sleep Number's -- I'm expected to make this a better place to work.

    Cons

We're on a journey and we don't always live up to the values we believe in. When we makes mistakes, though, we apologize and make them better (whether for team members or customers).

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Decent pay, easy sell, great teammates, competitive district, hearing that we're improving people's lives with our beds is nice. The beds literally sell themselves

    Cons

Store is almost always dead. I sometimes go an entire 8 hour period without seeing one customer. Hard to make good commission. Home Delivery sucks so much. They almost always are the reason I lose the sale post transaction.

    Advice to Management

Close up dead or dying stores.
