    "Worst company I've worked at"

    I worked at Slice full-time

    Pros

Health benefits, free lunches, gym, unlimited PTO, some really smart, great people

    Cons

The list is endless...First, the lack of leadership. Upper management was never there as they were trying to find a way to exit. Middle management was horrendous and incompetent. They didn't know how to manage nor display any real leadership capabilities. They had no direction and little to no idea of what they were doing. Communication was nonexistent throughout the company and there was three different... cultures. Each group was insulated, distinct and operated independently. There was not much team cohesion. So, depending on which group you were part of, you could have a very different experience. Slice emphasizes its great culture. Well, now that it's been acquired and most of the people that made that culture "great" left, there isn't much culture. What's left is the leftovers and the stains that couldn't be washed away (and I am only speaking about the managers/leadership). Bottom line - don't work here!

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Slice full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good health benefits. Diverse group of people. Catered lunches. Commuter benefits. Decent gym. Company sponsored happy hours/events. Smart/nice people. Unlimited PTO. WFH flexibility for some teams.

    Cons

Chasm between eastern and western work ethics/expectations. Most teams/employees are helpful, but definitely a few employees that are unhelpful/not knowledgeable and somehow still overpaid. Teams are generally siloed. Leaders/execs not inspiring.

    Advice to Management

Senior management could use some formal training on employee development, mentorship, communication, and conflict resolution. Also, managers should work together to improve inter-departmental communication. People keep leaving and the environment is generally low energy.

I have been working at Slice for more than a year

    Pros

Good company culture, everyone is friendly and supportive Focus is on keeping employees happy with perks and treadmills in the breakroom Good work life balance

    Cons

Company is very top heavy, large salaries for too many people when maybe 2/3 the people working hard would do the trick Reporting structure is a mess, it's no longer flat and there are layers upon layers of people you report to Internal strife between teams

    Advice to Management

Focus on bringing in new business, less on the ancillary company culture pieces

  9. "Cloud Engineering"

    • Career Opportunities
    • Compensation and Benefits
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Slice full-time

    Pros

The phone screen was short and to the point, and the main interview while long covered things that were entirely relevant to the position, which in the field of devops may not always happen. A lot of places still do not know how to properly interview for devops type positions because there is so much flexibility

    Cons

Not many, although it would have been nice to be given a more concrete date as to when they'd get back to the applicant.

    Pros

    - great culture, work-life balance and co-workers/work environment - ability to learn and grow professionally - fun team offsites/outings - 360 feedbacks

    Cons

    - business directions could be clearer - addition of the rakuten brand/culture hasn't been so great
