I worked at Sling Media full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small start-up type company, backed by Echostar/Dish, close-knit team, interesting new product line, potential to reinvent itself, good office location off 92 by San Mateo Bridge.

    Cons

No solid roadmap, Slingbox is dead, all eggs in a new basket called SlingStudio, local management puppet to Denver operations, and who know what Dish is going to do.

I worked at Sling Media full-time

    Pros

You will work on the latest and greatest technology. Exec team was very knowledgeable.

    Cons

Managing multi geographically distributed teams was painful. The quality of the deliverables are lower than desired so the PM has to do the job of validation as well to ensure the deliverables do indeed meet the intended quality to release the product. This was a chronic issue however and did not change with time.

    Health Coverage was very poor.
    401 K contribution was nill.

    Advice to Management

Cheaper labor leads to low quality products and less innovation.

    Pros

There is an opportunity to work on multiple projects and different technologies. Might be a good place for somebody interested in extending skill set. Good work life balance. Not too much pressure on most projects.

    Cons

Benefits could be better. There is no bonus or any incentive system. Communication with remote team is seriously broken. There is lack of company roadmap.

    Pros

Compared to other companies, I don't see any pros.

    Cons

    - Old equipment, and very sloooow IT
    - No planing, PM has new idea every day/week
    - Never ever meet deadline, like ever

    Pros

Many opportunities for professional growth. Open environment for sharing ideas, objections, innovation. The co-workers are possibly the best part of the work environment. Environment allows for good work/life balance.

    Cons

Owner, EchoStar, is not the type of company is want to work for in terms of culture. As the years go by, EchoStar culture overtakes Sling culture. Naturally. But unfortunately.

I worked at Sling Media (More than a year)

    Pros

Used to have cool technology but it has lost its edge. It has been trying hard to make a comeback is all that is positive.

    Cons

Bad management, healthcare, no effort paid to making groups work together, providing faking deliverables, etc. are the norm.

    Advice to Management

Fix by firing the top managers and putting Echostar people there. Make the India team deliver on its commitments.
