I have been working at Slumberland full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Between the extensive growth of the organization and structured manager-in-training programs, the opportunities for advancement are extensive for motivated and mobile candidates. I myself have accepted promotions and transfers to 3 different states over the years, and I have cherished each experience. A team-based atmosphere and people-first philosophy are very evident and consistent from store to store and market to market, showing a strong commitment to our core values from senior cabinet members all the way to the newest back room guy. I have been an employee for the better part of 2 decades and I anticipate many more!

    Cons

It is retail, so the hours are not the most convenient if you are looking for a 9-5 M-F job. That said, if you can get past that hurdle it is very hard to find negatives. The people are awesome, the compensation is competitive or better, and the opportunities are excellent!

I worked at Slumberland full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People at the Springfield, MO store are amazing. They have established excellent culture that full of love and respect.

    Cons

It's a corporate store. There are strategies that could be more efficient to compete with local competitors but since it's a corporate store, the decision was made from the corporate.

I have been working at Slumberland full-time

    Pros

It is a company that gives back to the community and encourages its employees to contribute to charitable causes. The company works hard to survey employees to work on creating a positive work environment. I enjoy working for a company that prides itself on giving back in the communities it serves.

    Cons

The hours get long and there is a lot of extra work for sales employees as the advertising and marketing groups require so much re tagging and merchandising before each sale. We used to have more help at the store level and that has tapered off the last several years. If you have a large sales staff it is not so bad but a smaller sales staff it makes it difficult.

    Advice to Management

Bring back the assistant managers at each store and the visual merchandisers.

I have been working at Slumberland full-time

    Pros

Its really easy and laid back at every store and I've worked at several. You have some busy days, but most are pretty boring. Everyone is really nice. Good for teenagers.

    Cons

It gets boring fast. There isn't a real way to progress in the company. The pay is fairly low. Cuts and scrapes on fingers often.

I have been working at Slumberland full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The culture within the store is the best I have ever been a part of. Employees get along with each other and it is definitely not like your "normal" commission environment. Someone who truly dedicates the time and energy can make over six figures. Management is excellent and genuinely cares about both the employees and the customers. They believe in the "less is more" concept so we are not overstaffed with sales people. They want the right people instead of a lot of people. Management is also extremely flexible when it comes to scheduling, and the company does provide and excellent PTO program which is very important. The employee purchase program is good and most people take advantage of that.

    Cons

The insurance definitely needs improvement. Other than that, nights/weekends/holidays are required since it is a sales job which gets annoying, but there are trade offs. Cleaning is also required by the sales associates.

    Advice to Management

Keep on doing what you are doing.
