      Good Environment, Big Changes Coming

      Pros

There have been a lot of changes in the past few weeks, all for the better. As the company continues to grow under new owners we're seeing some management and personal changes, as would be expected. However, most of the changes are what you would expect from a tech company going through an acquisition. These changes are also opening the door for current employees to grow within their roles, and for teams to expand. I'm personally very excited about the changes and where the company is going. Every office is a little different, but overall it's a fun place to be. People get along well and you can tell there is some real talent here. People don't take each too seriously, which makes the office a comfortable place to be. Additionally things like vacation time and benefits are pretty good, better than other places I've worked. Tuesday lunches, Wednesday breakfast, snacks, full cost of medical and public transportation, etc.

      Cons

      - Sometimes communication from exec team/upper management doesn't get to the rest of the company in a timely manner. - Can be fast paced environment and you are expected to learn quickly. That's often the case for any tech company though

      Get It Together Smaato

      Pros

Good snacks in the office. Accessible to Bart. Good group of people to work with.

      Cons

Org charts don't make sense. Promotion does not guarantee a salary increase. Seniority does not necessarily mean they will have industry knowledge. Upper management needs management training. Grow and build confidence in your employees instead of micromanaging. MBO's are not assigned until mid-quarter. A lot of the senior team members left leaving behind a junior team that needs guidance. Lack of new supply is a concern, but an even bigger concern is the drop in buyer spend. The recent positive reviews are very misleading. They are lying when they tell you there is room for growth. Management would like transparency but its held against you.

      No Real Direction

Feb 27, 2017 -  in San Francisco, CA

      Pros

Great office - clean, modern. Most employees are pretty friendly. Decent benefits.

      Cons

Upper management has no real direction for the company. The CEO is a bore who doesn't really understand what innovating is; he's simply coasting on the fact that the company got acquired recently. Some employees are inefficient, others flat-out incompetent. A lot of the working hours here feel like busy work and ultimately unproductive.

      Think twice about Smaato.

      Pros

Solid teams in SF & NYC. They keep things interesting for sure.

      Cons

“HQ” located in Germany, with majority of support based there. Total lack of support can cause issues with managing your roster of clients and their needs. Training DOES NOT exist for new staff nor to develop existing teams. Upper management consists of abusive type A personas that absolutely need to undergo executive training. Marketplace standing could use an overhaul.

      Pros

very international team, a lot of driven colleagues, a lot of responsibility for everyone who is ready to take it, fun at work, great work environment, culture open for innovative thoughts

      Cons

pretty steep hierarchy for the size of the company (on paper, not culture-wise), not enough women in the executive management/ upper management, even more transparency on strategic decisions would be great

An honest review of the Singapore Smaato working culture

Nov 18, 2016 - Account Manager in Singapore
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

The branding and the "Made in Germany" product is relatively good sell to majority of our clients. Smaato was once a powerful force in the industry and especially in Asia. I like it when there was a diversity of professionals weighing in on strategies and tactics. Unfortunately, many of the good talent failed to stay due to bad overall culture and management. Great team to work with internationally, locally the culture is pretty negative

      Cons

      1. Staff are being lectured for replying emails that is not in his own style of preference. 2. Embarrassing staffs in front of others. 3. Shouts from his desks and orders people around 4. Conduct ad-hoc meetings without regards of anyone's schedule in the company 5. Very unproductive meetings, on the context of brainstorming but actually it is his own work that is required to be done and understood at his level 6. Bad habit of talking behind people's back and acts like he is best buddies in-front of that person in a hypocritical fashion 7. Forwarding of private emails to him only (Your emails are never safe) 8. Dangle promotion carrots all time to employees in public. Embarrassing when one doesn't get promoted during due time. 9. Disrespectful to those who contribute lesser than others in terms of revenue. Puts people down in front of everyone, has no respect for basic dignity. 10. Manipulates upper management, unnecessary tension among the leadership levels 11. Hires a whole lot of his own people from his ex company, and within his private social circle. 12. Too much google documents and useless unproductive tracking 13. Promotes a whole lot of managers to become SENIOR manager but same job scope 14. Overdose of google docs and google docs and google docs .... 15. Management in Singapore is like a Timex watch in a digital world 16. Daily stand ups and two times a week meetings 17. Management way or the highway (Not much freedom of expression or learning) 18. Cramped office and everyone seems to be working in a sweatshop factory 19. HR is ruling the company with an iron fist, like a discipline mistress 20. Negative enviornment and the list continues...
