I have been working at SmartBear full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Shocked to see some the negative reviews and I feel the need to tell the other side of the story. Walking around the floor in Somerville, you'd never know some people feel this way. We have great facilities and company benefits that are competitive even in the start-up tech space. Beautiful office in Assembly, tons of company swag, catered lunches, happy hours, company events, etc. While the perks are great, the opportunity...

    Cons

Turnover is something every agile tech company struggles with, especially in sales. Unfortunately this has caused some uncertainty from the greener employees who may not be used to it. Boston is a competitive market and there are reasons why other tech companies want our talent. There has been a bit of turnover recently but the reasons behind it overall are positive: taking on new opportunities, leading sales organizations,...

    Advice to Management

We are absolutely on the right track. The new CRO is an incredible talent and I believe that we are going to be twice and great as we are in the next year. I am certain that the negative reviews were written by non-performers who will do what it takes to blame the company for their failures.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! We’re thrilled to hear you’ve had such a positive experience here. I agree, fast growth can cause uncertainty, but we’re equally as excited about the new CRO and what’s to come.

      Pros

      - The Snacks/Cold Brew were ok -Office was nice -assembly

      Cons

-Management is toxic, not a lot of actual growth opportunities -Ignorant CEO -Wants to be something it's not -A lot of drama, most people you speak to don't actually like working there

      Advice to Management

Training the management would be nice

I have been working at SmartBear full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Nice people, cool work place, free lunch, proven product and there is a track to promotion

      Cons

pay was very low, not really coordinate office space, segmented

      Advice to Management

be more transparent when there are issues with an employee, hard to incentivize working when compensation is not competitive at all

I have been working at SmartBear full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Great location, benefits and lots of good people. I got excellent sales training. For the most part everyone likes each other.

      Cons

Unfortunately the company is going sideways. When the CEO actually comes to the office he stays in the “Porsche room” all conference rooms are named after a T stop except this one...guess who drives a Porsche? We have lost many sales managers in the last couple months and a bunch of good sales people and SE’s which has a huge impact on morale.

      Advice to Management

Listen to the people that are on the phones all day! The products need to improve and work together. Product sales and marketing all need to pull their weight for us to be successful. It seems that it just falls on sales. Our products are dated and give no feedback to why people use or don’t use them. Our leads are way down. We keep missing numbers despite an experienced team. Also you can’t introduce an oracle sales...

      I worked at SmartBear full-time

      Pros

Great location, nice shops nearby. Office has nice updates, benefits are good, w/ ping pong table, cereal bar and good folks to work alongside.

      Cons

The amenities in the office are more for show than actual use - ping pong at your own peril. All new employees pay for your own parking (not cheap) where some still get it for free. This is one of a few different examples of disparity - another being among compensation plans between tenured and new employees (even amongst new reps). Nepotism is rampant for the favored few. Highly transactional business model is both...

      Advice to Management

Be more open with your strategy of who you are (who Smartbear is) to current/new employees. The message is being lost in your lofty goal setting. Good folks leave when promises are not met and expectations don't meet reality.

I have been working at SmartBear full-time

      Pros

Company cares about your success, happiness and work-life balance. I have to be honest, it blows my mind everytime I read one of these bad reviews. I know who these individuals are, and believe me, no mother would be proud. The organization is willing to put their neck on the line and give individuals a shot at the big leagues! Work hard and you will receive opportunities you wouldn’t be able to achieve at other organizations....

      Cons

We have a few bad eggs bringing down the company. Their bad habits are fostering an environment that is corrupting those who consistently stay motivated throughout the day.

      Advice to Management

Step up! Stop letting individual contributors dictate the direction of your teams and company. I would hope that everyone working here is mature enough to take constructive criticism. Start fixing the problem instead of making excuses for it. People are happy when they are successful. Make them successful by kicking their bad habits. The longer you wait, the worse it’s going to get. In closing, stop “promoting” to avoid...

I have been working at SmartBear full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Good products Front line managers that seem to care about their teams Nice office

      Cons

Where to begin.... Absentee CEO that seems to never be in the office, has little understanding of the business or products and has turned what looked like an executive team that worked well together into a bickering group of self-serving figureheads who have little respect for the little people on their teams working hard every day. Also, this may be my first company, but I’m not naive enough to think that all...

      Advice to Management

They don’t listen so i’m not going to bother with much. Whoever comes in next when the current group is exited - we are a Boston company so start paying people like it and treating them with respect. There are way too many good companies around the area waiting to pull the rest of us out of here.
