I have been working at SmarterTravel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You will work with really smart, driven people. It's a complicated, ever changing-industry, but you get to own it. The perks are great (4 summer Fridays that you can take off and they DON'T count toward vacation + a personal travel stipend.) Work life balance is AMAZING. There's a reason people start their families here. They want to make it as easy as possible to be a mom or dad and make a big impact at work - if that requires an unconventional schedule, they are ok with that. Bottomline: Even when frustrating things happen and we are short handed, I always stop and think that I really love this job and everything we're doing.

    Cons

This company is evolving in how it make big decisions and keeps everyone in the loop. It's not great, but I still think its better than a lot of companies. Promotion raises are low. There are a lot of politics about promotions and when you finally get one, it's kind of underwhelming.

I have been working at SmarterTravel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Awesome benefits and culture. Ownership by TripAdvisor a big plus for professional growth and travel resources. Great work/life balance.

    Cons

Changes come down the pipeline with little to no warning for non-managers. Option to grow within company is pushed by management and HR, but actual movement is torturously slow, if it happens.

I have been working at SmarterTravel full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-Given meaningful responsibility early on -give you the freedom to test out ideas you have -good work/life balance -smart employees -just relocated from Charlestown to downtown Boston into a very techie office -good benefits -free snacks, drinks, lunch on Thursdays, happy hour Fridays, ping pong tournaments, casual dress, etc.

    Cons

-still some construction going on in the new office during workhours, but that should be completed soon -Starting salary is competitive but annual raises are a bit disappointing.

    Pros

Exciting, early-stage web products to work on Top notch team of engineers to work with Great work life balance with summer Fridays and happy hours in the winter Honest, open communication with everyone I've ever interacted with. Very little office 'politics' and red tape preventing progress

    Cons

Work occasionally gets repetitive (but what job doesn't?) Office location is pretty isolated

    I worked at SmarterTravel

    Pros

    - the employees (not management) are friendly - there is a good work life balance - it is a good place to get experience in an online advertising enviroment.

    Cons

    - no career development or mentorship. - no internal knowledge sharing. - disorganized - unprofessional - human resources is dismal, there is no one to turn to if you are facing issues or problems. - the "perks" ie free lunches, snacks, parties do not help to boost morale in a struggling industry - many people are granfathered into management positions that have no experience and should not be there. - employees wasting company resources are often giving other positions instead of being dealt with properly. - CEO is clueless as to how people live and only cares about the revenue figures. - There is no careerpath, people are supposed to be happy staying in entry level positions while they seem peers who are unqualified move up. - Managers are not taught to help employees but rather are just watching their own back and making sure their job is safe.
