I worked at Smashbox Cosmetics full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-Pay exceeds the industry norms -Gratis

    Cons

I truly wish I had better things to say about working for this company. I came on board with many years of industry experience and career successes under my belt, with high hopes. Unfortunately, terrible management and a extremely unprofessional atmosphere runs rampant throughout the cosmetics side of Smashbox. There are seasoned Smashbox veterans who are rude, catty, and overbearing. I observed and experienced multiple bad business practices during my short time there. They gaslight their employees and make them feel like they are the problem, when really the company is struggling because of the extremely poor leadership. After massive restructuring people were thrown into jobs that they clearly were not ready for and it shows. They only enforce policies when it benefits them, and favoritism runs rampant. My advice to anyone being courted to work for Smashbox Cosmetics is to think twice. They will offer a great sum of money, but the company culture is pretty terrible. I’m happy to say that after moving on from Smashbox with some good but hard lessons learned, I am with a company I adore who are a great example of what a well run business should be.

I worked at Smashbox Cosmetics full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Since it’s owned by Estée Lauder Companies, there’s a comprehensive benefits package, i.e. 401K, Full medical, dental, vision, paid maternity & paternity leave, flexible summer hours, etc.

    Cons

Horrible leadership and management. Toxic work environment. Brand itself has lost its vision and identity.

I have been working at Smashbox Cosmetics part-time

    Pros

Good quality products with lots of variety

    Cons

Their brand rep positions are infamosly bad. I went into this with pretty low expectations and they managed to wiggle under that bar. Lots of unpaid hours you were expected to work then they added an automated system (I'm sure someone went after unpaid wages or something.) New automted system slashed hours to almost nothing. At least they were all paid. No communication, higher ups will just straight ghost you like a bad Tinder date. They will hire new managers for your area and you won't hear anything about till months later. Nice professional emails and text responed to with just one word. They laid off all their experienced industry pros in the managment team and replaced them with bachelor degree block heads with limited industry experience and people under 25 who will take crummy wages.

I worked at Smashbox Cosmetics full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

So many great pros! -Amazing training (when available) -Fun trips to Smashbox Studios -Made connections that will last a lifetime -Great steppingstone for career move -Taught me a lot about the beauty industry -Great training materials to take in store for brand partners -Some fun gratis

    Cons

-A lot of turn over in the last few years. I had two wonderful leaders that we lost to other companies, and one really bad boss which was the reason you lost me to another company. -Back biting, and people clawing their way to the top makes for a toxic work environment. This happened higher up in the company as well, and so it set a bad tone for the work culture. -People put in leadership positions without leadership skills (or people skills) -Being a remote AAT you need extra attention, but my last boss never visited me/my territory (of three states) in over a year while she was my boss. She doesn't care about her employees, and is a complete micro-manager. I would get physically ill every time before I would have to speak to her. It was a shame because I used to love Smashbox before her.
