      Overall a Positive Experience

      Pros

As part of the Estee Lauder family of brands, you receive great benefits (extensive PTO, best in class maternity/paternity leave, gratis, free products, health/dental insurance, LinkedIn Learning, dog-friendly office, free snacks, etc). I was given extensive training and tools—so much so that it became overwhelming at times. The brand imagery is evolving beautifully. Product is high quality and several are vegan. I met some really great people while working there.

      Cons

The culture can be toxic. I didn't particularly feel this on my immediate team, but it was very apparent throughout the office. Very high turnover. Everyone was spread so thin. Digital assets were constantly late, causing me work late on a regular basis. Because it's so corporate, things take forever to get done, and there's constant changes. Really demanding expectations in my role. The brand claims to be "makeup for every day", yet their creative reflects models at photoshoots. Smashbox the brand/photo studio and Smashbox Online are two separate entities with separate goals.

Poor brand leadership, brand is fighting to stay relevant

      Pros

By joining Smashbox Cosmetics you are an Estée Lauder Companies employee and that’s the real benefit. ELC is an AMAZING company that takes care of its employees and develops their staff.

      Cons

Smashbox on the other hand, is a disaster of a brand. Terrible leadership, lots of turnover and almost no recognition for more junior members of staff.

      Barely staying afloat

      Jan 21, 2021 - Anonymous Employee

      Pros

A good amount of PTO (with prior approval), good health care options, free snacks, free drinks, convenient working hours, good product discount in addition to sister brand discounts

      Cons

The workplace is unorganized and inefficient. Deadlines change continuously and project approvals/ communication from the highest level of management are nearly non-existent. Attempts to streamline project management were met with heavy resistance and failure to meet goals was met with the “blame game” rather than dealing with miscommunication and other issues head-on. Nearly 80% of authorized projects and planned campaigns were scrapped at the last minute. Reports to HR never amounted to any action in house. I saw almost a dozen employees quit or were fired including long-time workers.

      Pros

Smashbox was big on training and education of products, studio tricks, and sales. Great community of artists and felt like family

      Cons

Some executives seemed to show favorable tendencies to top performers. Rather than offering solutions or help when in difficult situations. Retail politics weren’t lacking.
