    Pros

Nice building with desk situated so you can see out the window if exterior office chooses to leave their door open.

    Cons

Any concerns or situations aren't really addressed. You're told YOU are the problem and just go back to your desk and get back to work.

    Advice to Management

Leave the caste system of old school firms behind and value everyone - from top to bottom of your pay scale.

I have been working at Smith Gambrell & Russell full-time

    Pros

From my experience so far, Smith Gambrell is a great place to start a legal career. The firm provides excellent support and training to its new associates. The partners encourage their associates to work on several different types of matters while they try to find their place within the firm. Several attorneys and staff members at Smith Gambrell have been with the firm for all or most of their careers, and the firm really tries to continue this tradition by encouraging its employees to grow with the firm (rather than just work for a few years and move to a different job, like at most other big-law type firms).

    Cons

Like other law firms of its size, the firm expects its associates to meet a high billable hour goal.

Good culture, many great people to work with.

Outdated management model and comp structure.

    Advice to Management

Find better way to distribute work amongst available attorneys

I worked at Smith Gambrell & Russell full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Intelligent attorneys, high quality of work is expected.

    Cons

There is not a consistent firm culture, at least in the satellite offices. Consequently, one's own work experience is based primarily on the quality of the other attorneys in your department. If you have a bad department head, there's not much you can do to improve your situation, short of leaving.

    Pros

Billable hours requirements are relatively lower than other big firms.

    Cons

Compensation is completely skewed at the top of the firm.

    Advice to Management

Bring the compensation structure in line iwth other modern firms or risk losing all of your talent.

I worked at Smith Gambrell & Russell (Less than a year)

    Pros

The atmosphere of the company was great. Upper management was very friendly and highly motivational.

    Cons

Where do I start? The hours aren't desirable 8:45-7 M-Sat. The pay was appealing in the interview, but once you begin working you actually make about half than what they make it seem you will earn, on top of that it took three weeks to see a fairly decent pay check. Once you factor in travel time into your check, you're basically getting paid minimum wage. I made more money as a part time sales associate.
