    Pros

Laid back and no micromanaging. Good middle managers, very understanding of when life happens. Awesome coworkers. The pay was decently high even for an entry position. Great medical benefits (only paid a couple hundred dollars out of pocket for a multi-thousand dollar hospital stay).

    Cons

Very low morale the last few years as the company continued to struggle from the recession. Layoffs every couple of years.

At the top management level there are lacking of highly innovative and forth thinking elites to make strategic planning. The company operates by luck. It failed quite a few times to foresee interruption events in technology and market, therefore suffered many time severe business downturns, resulting large scale work force downsize.

    Advice to Management

Try to recruit highly innovative and forth thinking elites to make strategic decisions on companies business model and market position transitions.

I worked at Smith Micro full-time

    Pros

The company is very open to exploring new software technologies and tools.

Strong team of individual contributors all around.

Casual work environment with flexible hours.

    Cons

The company has spent the last 5 years unsuccessfully trying to recover from the loss of a major customer. No new products with any significant revenue have been sold during that time, causing the revenue to hit a floor of whatever the sustaining products can continue to generate.

Huge political battles in management. Poor decisions are made depending on who does best at the blame game or convinces the CEO that their speculative project is worth pursuing.

    Advice to Management

Reduce scope to what is profitable and a couple of new promising areas instead of having 20 projects throwing darts in many directions hoping for a hit.

    Hire a product visionary
