    Pros

    Good equipment,
They will run you as long as you like running northeast from the roaring springs yard.
Or from the ellenwood, GA yard to the northeast.

    Cons

Poor service department management, takes 14+ hours to get a heater hose replaced in the roaring springs shop which should take no more than a couple hours,No pay for the down time
Ellenwood, GA shop 5-6 mechanics/shop employees running around doing nothing 1 employee trying to keep up with all the write ups takes 6 to 8 hours to get a tire changed.

    Advice to Management

Cut out on the shop in Ellenwood, GA taking breaks every hour and stop holding up both shops for just topping off fluids for lazy drivers who like laying around in the terminals.

I worked at Smith Transport full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Most of the people in my department were great to work with

    Cons

Wages & morale are low. Interdepartmental teams are non-existent. Difficult to offer new ideas or processes since they seem to be cut down based on your level in the company.

    Advice to Management

Identify the talent in your employees, and open your mind to ideas other than your own.

I have been working at Smith Transport (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked there for a couple of years. The equipment was nice and for the most part they got you were you wanted to go. Home time was good and benefits were for the most part were good too.

    Cons

Always a long wait for service work to be done in the shop. Found it quicker sometimes to get the repairs done out on the road.

I have been working at Smith Transport (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good equipment and you are paid for a lot of but not all your waiting time. Company is an ESOP so all employees have an ownership stake.

    Cons

Operating area is about the worst in the business. Mostly East Coast and Northeast areas. Rate per mile is to low for the type of freight short haul and a lot of overnight runs that require you to sit all day unpaid waiting when you have hours to run. While the company has been an ESOP for a year now employees still have not been told what there shares are worth and wont be for at least 6 more months.

    Advice to Management

Increase the rate per mile for all drivers and pay drivers based on years of service with the company. Restore the vacation and Holiday Pay. Senior drivers have no reason to stay with the company as there are no seniority based incentives at all. New drivers get the same money and benefits as drivers that have been here 10 or more years.

I have been working at Smith Transport full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great equipment for OTR drivers. Plenty of miles given. Great people to work with if you plan on staying over the road.

    Cons

The local equipment is terrible. It constantly breaks down. Also drivers on some local accounts have not gotten raises in almost 10 years.

    Advice to Management

Need to work on incentives for local drivers and better equipment. Give employees raises and a reason beyond a pay check to come to work.
