I have been working at Smith's Food & Drug full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I work as a starbucks manager inside the store and i find my work enjoyable. Kroger has great benefits and is a great company to work for overall.

    Cons

The pay is ridiculous for my position. I get paid the same as my employees despite holding a manager title and having countless other duties.

    Advice to Management

The corporate side of smiths and starbucks need to communicate more and create more clarity within tasks/company standards

Seems to have a lot of rules

    Advice to Management

Give more autonomy to the people.

I have been working at Smith's Food & Drug full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Unskilled labor money is good. Working hard on an average system to increase your pay from $23 to $35 an hour and working early and late shifts you can make $80k/year.

    Cons

Hours, poor management, seniority rules (you won't get into entry-level management without a degree and/or 13-15+ years).

Indirect pay: change a battery or have a meeting? Go from your average ($35) down to about $19. Figure about 20% of your total hours will be indirect pay. This cuts into your overtime pay as well.

Work all holidays, and they are taking away holiday pay on the biggest holidays. Kiss your super bowl games good-bye. Benefits are just ok, 401k match is a joke.

Problem is most people will make around $60k, and can't leave because they don't have any skills or management experience. High turnover people with 1-2 years, low turn-over 8+ years.

    Advice to Management

Change the culture. Safety is important but promote common sense and production again. Managers and supervisors should make more than pickers/reach drivers. Promote hard working people, not relatives.

I have been working at Smith's Food & Drug part-time

    Pros

I like the people and the customers. It's a good company to work for.

    Cons

Corporate and Management needs to listen to employees that know what the customers and store needs are.

I have been working at Smith's Food & Drug full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You stay very busy. Usually required to do at least 12 hours of work in 8 hour shifts.

    Cons

Ran by corporate scum, heartless people that care nothing about the workers.
Pay is not competitive with other grocery jobs.

    Advice to Management

Treat workers with respect to get more out of them, not run them by fear and treat them like slaves.

    I worked at Smith's Food & Drug part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Loved being able to connect with my customers on a regular basis. Very friendly staff throughout the network.

    Cons

Corporate will screw you. Went weeks without being payed before because of errors on THEIR end. Goals are impossible to achieve so they never have to pay out bonuses. Also they just recently cut the payed vacation to less than 1 week per year.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so greedy. Keep your employees happy or you're going to lose them like me.

I have been working at Smith's Food & Drug part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Time goes by so fast
    Meet lots of new people
    Always appreciated

    Cons

We only get three 10 minute breaks so if you're hungry you have to practically swallow your food whole
Paid under minimum wage because Smiths "offers health insurance," although it's hard to afford it when you're only paid 7.25/hr

    Advice to Management

15 minute breaks would be so much better... or at least a lunch break of 20 minutes

I have been working at Smith's Food & Drug part-time

    Pros

Pros for working employee discount year round.

    Cons

Inconsistent hours (you will lose hours after looking at the schedule one day and it shows you working for the week and the next day your hours are gone for the week), supervisor won't give you the hours you need to pay bills that are due each month, and finally you have to beg for hours.

    Advice to Management

Find out what part time employees need in hours each week, work more employees during peak hours (10-2, 4-8), know the days when you will be busiest ( the 1st, 5th, 11th, 15th, and 28th-31st) these days coninside with WIC and SNAP. Keep at least 2 cashiers until 10:30 pm during these days, it can get pretty busy.
