    Pros

Management is open to suggestions and change if needed. Very focused on the future and the amount of communication from the president is refreshing.

    Cons

Honestly I can't think of one. I truly enjoy my job

    Advice to Management

Keep taking care of the qaulity people you have. They are the backbone of the company. Encourage new people to follow in their footsteps.

I worked at Smiths Interconnect full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fair pay, small office feel in a global company, good bonuses, division got much better once bad management exited and an HR team who worked together to make a difference.

    Cons

Wasn't until the last year of working there that the global team got the post M&A strategy together. Health insurance cost and coverage was terrible even though everyone complained for years. Constant management change (yearly). Doesn't promote key departments from within.

    Advice to Management

No chance for advancement in areas other than Engineering.

    Pros

People are great and hard working

    Cons

    Management constantly changes the mission

    Advice to Management

Better communication and walk the walk. If you say you care about Team members then actually care about them.

I have been working at Smiths Interconnect full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It's getting harder and harder... Momentum? People already here are trying to ride to retirement or a better voluntary separation package?

    Cons

Poor management, business "re-sizing" (shrinking) twice a year. Outlook is bleak. "The Smiths Way" talk is infuriating when the Executive team says it for the 40th time and doesn't seem to ever act in accordance with the Smiths Way.

    Advice to Management

Clean house. This is so broken I don't even know where to start.

I worked at Smiths Interconnect full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flex time is great as is the Friday afternoons off.

    Cons

No room for growth, a management style that does not allow for local problem solving, and an inability by management to see how unhappy employees really are due to continued loss of benefits.

    Advice to Management

Saying employees are your best asset and acting like it are two different things. Employeees and their experience are not valued.

I have been working at Smiths Interconnect full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Individuals are working on some leading edge connector technologies.

    Cons

After years of cost-cutting layoffs, too few employees left to form design teams. Most all of the remaining experienced engineers laid off in the past 4-5 years are working for local competing firms making acquisition of new projects very challenging. When projects are secured, tasks are doled out to individuals, even experienced engineers, in an ad-hoc Manor due to several chronic staffing shortage. This creates a Post Office-like mill atmosphere that tamps individual growth and motivation. Management that has survived cost cuts operate so as to be very protective of there jobs, again suppressing employee professional growth. Much of former equipment and ancillary services, co-located making tasks like lab work, qualification, and production difficult to effectively administer and coordinate.

    Advice to Management

Get out of hyper-lean mode or relocate the remaining operation to one of the better supposed facilities.
