I worked at Snagajob full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits (vacation, 401K match, PTO for volunteering in the community, etc.) and great people here. The office in Richmond is pretty cool (there's a gym with locker rooms and showers, a slide, and ping pong) and they have organized social events throughout the year: volleyball, office olympics, grilling burgers and hotdogs, ultimate frisbee, etc. Coworkers are smart, dedicated and passionate. If you're trying to get away with doing the bare minimum, you won't last long here. HR is also really involved in trying to make this company a great place to work. They’re very proactive about listening to employees and relaying information to senior leadership. Overall, this is a good place to work for a couple of years, gain some experience, make some connections with people who will go other places, and then move on with your career.

    Cons

It’s difficult to be confident in leadership here. Senior leadership has been a revolving door for the past three years and it’s hard to tell whether that’s the cause for the company restructuring every four to six months or if it’s just because they lack the foresight to make the best strategic decisions. Either way, the continual knee-jerk changes in direction results in good people leaving, either from layoffs or for better opportunities.

    Pros

Coworkers are great for the most part, it used to be a great place to work from a culture standpoint and there are still some positive aspects to the culture remaining.

    Cons

Lack of accountability is rampant and departments withing the organization do not always feel like they are on the same page and do not always work together well.

    Advice to Management

Management seems out of touch with reality and makes decisions to go down paths and launch new products that aren't really ready for release.

I worked at Snagajob full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fun company culture with pretty sharp co-workers. All individual contributors strove to do the best work possible and focused on their contribution to helping jobseekers find job.

    Cons

    - Management ignored market feedback, and refused to make changes to the product offering despite consistent feedback on product packaging. Slow dev cycles & adoption of mobile made it difficult to compete in the broader job search landscape.

    - Petty arguments and conflicts could escalate quickly.

    Advice to Management

    - Be more nimble in the core product offering
    - Take in more customer & market feedback
    - Consider aligning book opportunities to provide equal potential success rates across brands.

Extreme micro-management with daily calling logs, talk time, etc.
Unreasonable work load expected on a daily basis (85+ Calls daily or 2 hours of talk time)
    Unfair distribution of sales leads

    Pros

Excellent CEO, fun events, casual attire, young company, easy commute, good benefits, attractive office, free concert tickets, volunteer opportunities available

    Cons

8:30am-5:30pm, no recognition if not in sales, poor middle managers, undefined career path, little to no useful personal development opportunities, unrewarded overtime, no work-from-home option, obvious favoritism

    Advice to Management

Senior management is excellent, but middle management is seriously lacking. Middle managers pick favorites and make it obvious to everyone, so whoever is left out of that group is left to weather all of the managers' bad moods. Also, as a whole, there is little room to grow within the company unless you come in doing what you want to do, or if you come in as something other than sales and want to get into sales. Typical of most small companies, the only way to move up at all is if someone leaves/gets fired, and even then it's not likely; although promotions from within do occur, more often than not, external hires seem to take precedence. Only those well-known favorites are likely to be considered for movement into different departments. Sean has really created the foundation for a fantastic work culture and he is great, but there are weak links in the middle who ruin it for a lot of employees.

    Pros

    Great people
    Decent suite of products
    Decent work/life balance
    Decent compensation
    Fun extracurricular activities
    Generous vacation package
    Nice location
    Nice facilities

    Cons

Middle management is so horribly ineffective, inexperienced, and biased it is not even funny.
Middle management does not stick up for their teams-them first, then team second.
Typically hire too quickly, then realize they don't have the market or territories to support those hires.Leads to layoffs.
