      Hostile Work Environment

Jan 11, 2021 - Software Engineer in Santa Monica, CA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Free food, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Lot's of perks.

      Cons

Company core values are not shared and influenced throughout the company. So much pettiness, competitive behavior within teammate, management is disrespectful, and zero motivation. Difficult life-work balance. You're not a respected human, just a worker.

Why does MBB pay Data scientists who do ML so poorly? The average DS comp is 250-350K with a few years of experience but MBB only pay 150K maybe. Top tier tech companies like Airbnb, Snap, Netflix would pay 450-550K with 4-5YOE and a MS degree. Why do MBB not pay top compensation for Data Science/ML? Seems like consulting in general doesn’t even pay 25% for these skills which are rare to find yet they’re getting paid 🥜 only 150K-200K max at MBB at the consultant level. How do they retain talent?

      Pros

Benefits, free food, maternity/ paternity leaves

      Cons

Very inexperienced/ political management, everyone is out for their own. The churn of managers/ directors/ leaders is unreal! Half the company works like crazy, the others in rest and vest mode!

      BEWARE!! Sinking ship

      Pros

Free food and gym on campus:) Okay benefits.

      Cons

Everything is a con, terrible leadership, awful backstabbing co-workers. I would highly discourage anyone to consider joining Snap in 2019 and beyond. This place is sinking fast. Also, for the pay it's not worth dealing with bullying managers.

      Cons

Excluded from most Snap events, perks, and no consideration implemented for the possibility of bringing contractors on full-time.

      Pros

-People are incredibly sharp, driven, and focused on innovation -Our Senior leadership actually listen to our feedback, ideas, and thoughts, and creates positive change based on that -There are opportunities to wear different hats and take on projects that might not normally be under the scope of your role -Benefits are insanely amazing -Career growth across the company is great -Free food is always a plus and there is plenty of it ***This is definitely a fast paced environment that isn't for everyone. If you're sharp, like to build products/processes/projects, and have a go-getter mentality, you'll thrive here.

      Cons

-Junior level management could definitely be stronger

      Pros

Very smart and nice co-workers. Nice offices. Free food.

      Cons

With the current stock price and botched product redesign, morale is low and good engineers are leaving in droves. Management refuse to take responsibility for their mistakes and employees opinions and advice is never listened to.
