    Pros

Get to sample some of the tastiest snacks in the snack industry. There is something for everyone in the line--from salty to sweet.

    Cons

Company is expanding quickly and it is difficult to determine long term goals. Communication between executive leadership and the field isn't always the best.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication between leadership and staff. Be open and clear about goals both short and long term. Consider impact of quick changes.

    I worked at Snyder's-Lance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Smaller company compared to competition, so able to make a big impact.
The CEO is very involved and is the kind of person that knows you by name.

    Cons

Worked far too many hours for far too little appreciation and compensation.
Great innovation that was NEVER supported with customer education so the items failed before they even had a chance.

    Advice to Management

Help employees have a work life balance by learning to help them manage their time. Don't take on a lot of new responsibilities as a company without planning for increasing staff!

    Pros

The product lines are really, really good. The pay and benefits are competitive for the area. There are some really good people. You stay active- it's not a desk job. Every day is a bit different. Some of the shifts are really great to work with. Others not so much.

    Cons

This is the first and last time I'll take a job in a small town that isn't where I'm not from. While I worked with quite a few really great people, the facility is run by locals who are not welcoming of outsiders. They don't receive much corporate oversight. Employment practices where time, attendance, scheduling and leave are concerned are retrograde and inflexible even by manufacturing standards.

    Advice to Management

Say what you're going to do and do what you say. Think outside "the way things have always been done" and get the turnover under control. Folks in Charlotte- take a good hard look at what's going on in your more remote locations.

    Pros

Great people at the lower to mid levels. Especially those who have been at the company in the extreme long term.

    Cons

Sociopathic management. Newer people entering continuing declining culture/ atmosphere. Little emphasis, or acceptance to listen to upward feedback.

    Advice to Management

Culture beginning to neglect employees focusing purely on P&L improvement. This is going to in the near term cause an exodus of talent as the job market continues to expand, particularly within the Charlotte region.

    Pros

    401K
Opportunity for relocation or lateral moves

    Cons

    Remote employees disconnected
    Poor Human Resources Dept.

    Advice to Management

Field Teams should have more of an open door policy to be honest about positives and negatives. People who are hired from the outside to run marketing efforts in large cities should have all references checked.

I worked at Snyder's-Lance (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fast growing company. Currently involved in many acquitions. Standard corporate benefits. Salary positions pay tend to be market average. Hourly positions tend to be low end of market. Annual pay increases. Salary positions tend to have bonus based on corporate performance.

    Cons

Opportunities for advancement are limited. They tend to keep you wherever you are hired in. They have a high performer advancement track, but that is limited to few. There is very little career advancement training available and the tuition reimbursement policy only applies if it is your current field of employment. If you work at the coporate headquarters, you have the best of everything. If you work at another location, not so much.

    Advice to Management

If you want to retain good employees, you need to provide opportunities for growth in alternate fields. Take a breather from acquistions. IT is stretched so thin bringing new business into your framework, they are unable to support the base business.
