I worked at Sobeys full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people at store level. That's about the only pro

    Cons

Head office has no stability, hiring district mangers that have no perishable experience, another with more human resource complaints then a store full of employees , another brought in from a company that had the exact opposite type of people management skills. Employees are just numbers. Regular staff lose their jobs but head office staff keep theirs?????

    Advice to Management

The sobeys family needs to wake up and clean house of all their corporate dead wood .

I have been working at Sobeys part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

My coworkers and location to my residence. Job is relatively easy especially after working at the same location for 3 years.

    Cons

Extremely underpaid and underappreciated. We 'Clerks' essentially run the store except we don't place orders although we really should because it'd be hugely beneficial to the store.
Head office, mainly HR, isn't adhering to company policy in regards to my rate of pay. After being promised my issue would be resolved. One of my coworkers had the same issue and hers was resolved and given a huge retroactive pay check. She now makes $14.50/hr, the current maximum pay for our position. For me, after 3 years of working fulltime hours and going above and beyond to push myself and work as hard as possible, make minimum wage. HR told my manager they will not be fixing this.

    Advice to Management

Properly administer raises. Policy says in writing after every 501 hours an increase is supposed to be given by you. My situation is ridiculous. Even some of the newer hire coworkers are beyond 501 hours and no raises have been mentioned.

I worked at Sobeys part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good co-workers to work with except for the brainwashed or crazy few nuts.

    Cons

Evil store managment that is more concentrated on micromanaging every employee in the store. Ripping them to shreads and making them cry at some points. Managment was good back to in day but since a change over employee moral has gotten worse and worse. Workers are too scared to do anything or too dumb to stand up. Store managment will watch cameras constantly and employees work versus overall product and customers.

    Advice to Management

Stop mircomanging employees and focus more core product and customers that come into the stay. Go back to the olden simplier days of the grocery business.

I worked at Sobeys full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people are generally good people, burdened by personal managements approaches and bearaucracy from "national"

    Cons

Terrible corporate leadership, trickle down labour shortage effects dependant on store and store manager, too much micromanagement

    Advice to Management

Stand up for your dedicated employees

I have been working at Sobeys full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good compensation, benefits, honourable family heritage, great potential if the company has the courage to make painful adjustments.
Plenty of industry know how is there but not utilized.

    Cons

Ridiculously complex structure, massive bureaucracy that is disconnected to what pays the bills-selling groceries.
Inbred leadership- all Ontario centric ex Loblaw employees that have no understanding of the vast majority of their business, which lies outside of Ontario.

    Advice to Management

Move our National office to Halifax (not Stellarton) and get back to our roots.
Regional offices in Stellarton, Mississauga, Calgary and Montreal.
Promote people that are passsionate about the store and the Sobeys way.
