I worked at Sobeys full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people at store level. That's about the only pro

    Cons

Head office has no stability, hiring district mangers that have no perishable experience, another with more human resource complaints then a store full of employees , another brought in from a company that had the exact opposite type of people management skills. Employees are just numbers. Regular staff lose their jobs but head office staff keep theirs?????

    Advice to Management

The sobeys family needs to wake up and clean house of all their corporate dead wood .

    Pros

If you have a developmental disability and a job coach, Sobeys might be an ok place to learn job skills... No disrespect intended. The benefit being the advantage of having a person to look out for you (the job coach). Many people of varying abilities have successfully launched healthy careers from starting in sobeys.

    Cons

There is no Health and Safety Training, or risk identification.
If you get injured, be glad you're not a horse...They would rather shoot you.
They need to be unionized to guarantee the basic of human rights.
Hypocrisy is the mantra of management

    Advice to Management

Unionize the work place, invest in the welfare of your employees', and treat others the way you would others to treat you (or your mom, whichever is better)

    Pros

Clean fairly good looking stores, with for the most part good product. Fairly decent about requesting time off if given a long time in advance.

    Cons

Poor management at all levels really cripple this company. Poor pay system as well. Ive worked there 3 years and am only making 20cents above min wage because of the recent minimum wage hike. DO NOT WORK HERE

    Advice to Management

Actually comunicate with your employees and treat them with respect. Also more hours are a must as well as a totally revitalised pay system.

    Pros

Some of the coworkers are awesome people
The customers are nice thats about it. The pay is decent but I only seem to get a raise when I threaten to quit

    Cons

    Promotions are unfair
They call you in on days that you booked off then get all mad when you dont go in
    Shifts are too short
Manaement praises employees who show up to work high and punish ones who do there job properly sober

    Advice to Management

Promotions should be based on your experience with the company I think you should move up from regular cashier, to courtesy clerk, to office or file maintenance clerk not straight from regular cashier to office or file maintenance

    Cons

    depressing work
    no reward for working hard
only motivation is to do the bare minimum
supervisor has no respect for the work we do
    Treated like garbage
    Supervisor on power trip
knowbody has anything good to say about anything
the only meetings we have is to remind us of something wrong were doing we are never rewarded for anything

    Advice to Management

Ask your employees how much they respect their supervisor. The answer will be the same if i see him otuside of work I will either ignor him or hit him.

    Pros

The benefits for full time employees are pretty good.

    Cons

Employees are only criticized, never acknowledged for a good job done. Specialists try to put you down for poor sales or stats without actually checking the real numbers! Management is constantly cutting the number of hours and staff to work in a week but then ask for more production and more cleaning and last minute schedule changes.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to rely on computers to run everything...Employees with experience will always give better results IF you treat them with respect and acknowledgement!

    Pros

    -Good location
    -Decent pay
    -Decent coworkers

    Cons

    -Abusive management
-Little to no freedom in your work
    -No chance of promotion
    -Little recognition of your work
    -Head Office ruins everything
    -Ugly uniforms
    -Filthy staffroom
    -Understaffed departments

    Advice to Management

Learn to treat your employees as people who have lives outside of the store. If your are understaffed, hire more people because if you do you will be able to generate more income and put less stress on your overworked employees. Give them a weekend/holidays off once in a while because they deserve it for working so hard, remember they are as human as you are. Show them kindness, set up staff fun events outside of work, bring donuts for the staff room, have contests, etc. Do something to show your staff that you as the leader, respect and care about them and in return they will continue to work hard and not quit.

I have been working at Sobeys full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The wages are competitive and it is hard to find anything better without a degree or trade. You can easily make new friends with coworkers.

    Cons

Management is not positive enough. They are overly critical towards their night crew. The night guys are the hardest physical workers in store and they often keep expecting more than what is humanly possible. They need to give more hours to do the job and maybe offer more reward incentive when doing a good job. It is hard to keep great workers when they don't feel positively engaged. High levels of stress are felt too frequently.

    Advice to Management

Have some sort of appreciation events/opportunities for over night workers who are unable to attend any similar events during the daytime. Working over night is very hard and it is discouraging to not feel as appreciated within the organisation.

I have been working at Sobeys part-time

    Pros

    - there are absolutely no pro's.

    Cons

    - No employee discount
    - Horribly ugly uniform
    - When you buy something on your break, you are required to have a receipt with you at all times, to me this means that they do not trust their employees.
    - Absolutely no benefits at all
    - Rude management

    Advice to Management

There should be some kind of employee discount, and more benefits of being a Sobey's employee, this may be the reason why employees lack motivation and steal so much from the company. The uniforms are way too formal. Black dress pants, white dress shirt and an apron? wtf seriously??

    Pros

    Wages, that's about it there.

    Cons

Poisoned and toxic. Micro managed to death.
Chilled warehouse (as cold as -28)
Union there does nothing for the workers, except yield to the company at every opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Instead of using most of your efforts into making it a hostile place to work, exert that effort into making it better and appreciating the people that make your profits possible.
