I have been working at Socalgas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Low stress work environment
    - Great benefits
    - Flexible schedule (depending on group)
    - Secure career

    Cons

    - Tenure is the only way to get recognized; performance rarely considered
    - Lots of office politics, very difficult to advance in career (unless you have tenure)
    - Anti-Change ("but we have always done it this way...")

    Advice to Management

Reward performance... and pay less attention to how long an employee has been there.

I have been working at Socalgas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

VPs seem to be authentic in providing the best services to customers possible. Company benefits are beyond excellent. All other departments in the company are well paid and workers are very satisfied.

    Cons

All the main issues seem to be only in the Human Resources department. Work is consistently micro managed along with your lunches, even bathroom breaks are scrutinized. Employees are constantly being pit against each other and asked to report on each other so that management can keep people divided. If you take time off for personal medical reasons you are written up. Teams are small and office morale is very low. If you report an issue with management they will retaliate. Employees have many times complained and it falls on deaf ears. Supervisors are completely unprofessional and will embarrass/yell at their subordinates. It is really bad. So many in this department just hate coming into the office everyday because of the environment. Pay is consistently low compared to TPA's. Employees have taken pay cuts because of the allure of the company only to find themselves regretting the position because of the office environment and abusive management tactics.

    Advice to Management

Serious intervention is needed of supervision and management staff. It will not be long before this place has a very high turn over and gains the reputation of a revolving door.

I have been working at Socalgas full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Very nice people, great work atmosphere. Flexible hours, and 3 day teleworking. Beautiful physical building and offices in downtown LA.

    Cons

Senior Software developers complain they are overloaded with too much work. They indicate management can sometimes always accommodate requests without knowing how much work the developers will have to perform despite them being overloaded with work.
