I have been working at Socalgas full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people are definitely the best. Committed. Caring. Hard-working. It's like family. And the culture of the company is focused on the people too. Unlike our competitor, SoCalGas does not have routine lay-offs. We invest in the community we serve. Our employees are engaged and show up at volunteer opportunities to help give back. Our employees have integrity, care and concern to do the right thing for our customers and the community. I have worked here for over 20 years and am so proud of our employees! #TeamSoCalGas

    Cons

Resources can be scarce, so work-life balance can sometimes be a challenge too.

    Advice to Management

Provide a clear vision of where we're heading and communicate how employees can help!

I worked at Socalgas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work ethnic is promoted. Good pay and benefits.

    Cons

Traffic is bad going there. As far as workplace, it can be a bit cliquey. Some people maybe show you a smile but don't trust everybody.

    Advice to Management

You don't really have integrity. Just looking out for yourself.

I have been working at Socalgas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Overall, this is a great company to work in. The company provides great benefits, great work/life balance, and a excellent incentive compensation plan.

    Cons

In IT, poor performance aren't always dealt with at a timely matter. There's a very few opportunities to move up beyond a Team Lead/Supervisor in IT due to low attrition.

    Advice to Management

IT is a shared-service between Socalgas and SDGE. But 90% of the IT leadership opportunities are in San Diego. This can't be great of the future of the company, especially for IT talents that are based in Los Angeles.

I have been working at Socalgas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Cash balance plan (7.5% of every paycheck deposited to a retirement pension)
-401k matching; Roth 401k option now available as of 2019
-Vacation time just increased to 3 weeks after 2 years of service. Before, one had to wait 5 years to earn that third week
-Tuition reimbursement ($5250 per calendar year)
-Great work/life balance as most departments allow to work remote at least once a week. Company considering a 9/80 work week for some departments this year
-Great entry-level program, such as Management Associates Rotation Program, (MARP), Financial Leadership Program (FLP), Engineer Rotational Program, and IT Rotational Program, for young people fresh out of college. Allows for exposure to different groups and a build-up of networks within the company for professional development and career opportunities in the future
-Various career opportunities touching all aspects of the energy industry. It's encouraged to move around.
-Stable company looking to re-brand itself for the future as natural gas is here to stay and will be part of California's strategy for electrification.

    Cons

-Changes in business process often takes a long time
-Resource scarcity in some departments as company is undergoing efforts to save O&M costs all across Sempra family of companies
-Slow on-boarding process (badge, laptop, access to software)
-mix of people looking to be challenged and those just in it for the job until retirement
    -Seniority driven in some roles
-Fitness subsidy taken away for management employees

    Advice to Management

Keep on investing in and retaining younger employees as this will help set the foundation for the company going forward, as there will be a lot of retirements in the next decade. Benefits have improved in 2019 and it's trending in the right direction.
