I have been working at Socalgas as an intern

    Pros

Great people to work with. A lot of room for moving up. As long as you do your job you will be ok. You are dealing with natural gas, there's great responsibility.

    Cons

I have no complaints with this company. Every company has their little fleas here and there but it is a great company overall.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing a good job

I have been working at Socalgas full-time

    Pros

No company is perfect. This company is the best of the Sempra family of companies, and beats most other companies hands down. Lots of freedom to provide input and make decisions that move projects forward. Leadership places a lot of trust in employees to "do the right thing." Your work is not micromanaged. Company provides lost of training to develop and retain employees.

    Cons

Some employees never had a "real career job" before coming to SoCalGas. These employees have no prospective and do not know how fortunate they are to be working for a great company. Some of them complain but they do not know what they are talking about. The work/life balance needs work. Working a lot of hours is routine.

    Advice to Management

Be more open about selection process used to develop and select directors

I have been working at Socalgas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This company really cares about it's employees and the community.

    Cons

It's a utility so its not really open for "creativity". Just pretty much do what you're told 40 hours a week. Sometimes that's good though. Low stress.

I have been working at Socalgas as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

good working environment and nice accommodation of scheduling. Fast pass with strong expectations of completing a task at the year end goal.

    Cons

Management applies and tries to incorporate new measures to help productivity. Most of the time the new implementations are initially enforced but later neglected.

I have been working at Socalgas full-time

    Pros

Benefits are really great. Company is loyal to their workers. Bonus is a plus. Most employees have been here over 10 years. You can transfer into any department after a year. Lots of growth to move forward, offers classes. You don't see employers take care of their employees like the Gas Co does.

    Cons

None, but it is very hard to get your foot in the door for a claims examiner, very few positions.

    Advice to Management

Thank You for standing by your employees!

I have been working at Socalgas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great team, collaborative, casual and professional atmosphere, raises, bonus at end of year, telecommute, management and professional development trainings, 401k, great benefits, learning workshops that include free lunches, and work flexibility. Company loves to hire by referral especially if it's friends and family, but make sure the current employee is in good standing and has a good reputation.

    Cons

You might get a bad boss here or there, but you can apply to another or transfer. They only offer tuition reimbursement if you are currently taking classes, not after you graduate. Director positions can be based on seniority (years of service) and usually promoted within the company. Tons of Manager titles-positions, not enough movement to Sr Manager and very limited Directors positions.

    Advice to Management

Offer more management titles like Edison and PG&E: Senior Manager, Associate Directors and Chief of Staff, it helps with moral, especially after what recently happened.

    Pros

Great experience, allowed to go out and visit jobs in the field. Everyone is very helpful and if you're willing to learn they are willing to help.

    Cons

Management doesn't allow any over time. Sometimes depending on the location of the work you aren't allowed to go out and visit.

    Advice to Management

    None
