I have been working at Société Générale full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good hours(possible the best hours in investment banking industry), good culture, good work life balance, good interpersonal relationship. Various after work activities. Most important of all, good salary for the entry level positions.

    Cons

If you are someone vert aggressive, then it might not be the company that you are expecting. The company is more suitable for those people who priortize work life balance. And, the max-2-year traineeship will bring uncertainty to the career path. But exit opportunities are mostly good.

    Advice to Management

No advice. I think the management has done a very good job.

I have been working at Société Générale full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great place to work and to learn for young people

    Cons

Can't really retain good people, and can't manage poor performers.
It's a pity as people are well trained and developed, but the company can't get the benefit of it.
No much changes at the top of the management.

  3. "Not a good bank to join for a person who wants actual performance but not playing office politics."

I worked at Société Générale full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Relative good working hour to leave office around 8pm when compare to other investment banks.

    Cons

    - Lower salary than peer banks, given it is not top tier investment bank.
    - Continuously cutting cost and budget by pushing staffs into list of not good performance without actual / solid reason and measurable criterias. Indirectly forcing people out without any compensation by using this tools with HR together. In substance, only cost cutting but making staff stressed on his/her performance and resigned by themselves.
    - Significantly offshore operation and reporting processes to India Bangalore without proper goverance so the onshore staffs would be hard to work on.
    - No prospect for non French or non Indian staffs.
    - Extremely political in managements and exco members and you need to shoe polishing with them and serves those old colleagues who just play politics and leverage French senior management power to push other departments to serve their own credit to ladder up without recognising people vaule and contribution.
    - No transparent in annual bonus review process and you don't expect at least a complete month of bonus.

    Advice to Management

To be a real tier one investment bank, operation model need to consider humanities, people vaule, respect and not just a target without considering people motivation.

    Pros

Great people. Excellent opportunities of networking, you basically just have to take the elevator and go to another floor to meet friendly people there !

    Cons

The only incovenient I can see on top of my head is the housing cost in HK, think 2 times the prices of London.

    Advice to Management

Just keep doing what you guys are doing so great ! The welcome of the new interns was espacially good.

I have been working at Société Générale full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Significant qualitative benefits (holidays, working hours, learning and development). A lot to learn in the CIB world, both in support functions and Front Office, with a rich information system and equities product offering.

    Cons

Depending on the team, knowledge can be difficult to be shared.
Paying under market, annual reviews can be just symbolic.

I worked at Société Générale as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nothing which I found positive in this bank , I found that very disappointing and lacks behind other
banks. Management not professional at all

    Cons

*Salary is paid by hourly basis , rate is below market
*Workflow is not efficient , many duplicate task , no clear guidelines , use Crap company systems
*No proper trainings to new joiners
*Bad culture , colleagues and line managers not willing to help new joiners
*No team spirit at all , everyone care for themselves
*For new joiners , even for the first time to make mistake within the first month will get fired

    Advice to Management

Should do more restructuring on the work flow so that to maximise efficiency for example should separate different duties to different ppl .
Also the culture should be improved , staffs not willing to give a hand to new joiners.

    Pros

Good school to learn, they provide the environment for juniors to learn and encourage curiosity and feedbacks; quite a lot of good managers around if you are lucky.

    Cons

Salary not competitive at all; limitations due to Paris headquarters; tolerate low performers.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of incapable people; stay fair in terms of reward and compensation; continue to listen to feedbacks from the ground
