I worked at Société Générale as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Comfortable working environment, salary was great, team friendly atmosphere, and was always able to chat with my managers if I was having an issue

    Cons

There was no clear cut plan of direction on how to attack the current problem. Almost every issue was being escalated to upper management

I worked at Société Générale as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Sharpe people, nice offices on Park Avenue. The management is great and easy to approach. Probably the most prestigious French investment bank, always well considered by its American competitors. Great pay for interns.

    Cons

Compliance is heavy, like anywhere else, and depending on what department you are interning with, you could end up not doing much. Outside of that, there is not much I could reproach to SocGen.

    Advice to Management

Try to use your interns a bit more. Give them more opportunity to shine. Allow them to work with different teams. Give interns an access to trainings.

"Small company feel in a big corporation."

I have been working at Société Générale full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

SG is an international corporation, but the regional offices feel like a small company. Most meetings in NY are in person so you get to have face-to-face interactions. The office location in Midtown Manhattan is great and there is an entrance to Grand Central in the bottom of the building. They really value a work-life balance and everyone takes all their many vacation days and nobody looks down on them for doing it. People enjoy working here and work hard while they are here. There are a lot of smart people everywhere. They also compensate most people pretty well and the benefits are unparalleled with 8% matching on your 401K.

    Cons

Many approvals have to go through Paris, so it is sometimes difficult to get things done. Management also just decided to not create an IHC board for the FED, so essentially there is a glass ceiling on how big the company can grow. There is also a glass ceiling on how successful you can be if you are not French. If you are french, you are valued more than if you are not and French people will get promoted over someone from the US in most cases.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on Employee Engagement and read the voice of the employee in the barometer. There isnt a very strong community feel. People dont interact outside of work. Also, there should be more marketing tools to spread the name of SG in the US. SG has a pretty well known name and people who work here are proud of working here. If SG employees were given more SG "gear" they would be able to show it off and talk about how great of a place it is to work, which would be great word of mouth marketing and increase our footprint in the minds of the other big banks, which are shrinking.

Flexible working hours, it was also a great professional experience in the heart of New York City. It opened my eyes to the real working environment.

    Cons

I can not say anything bad about the company, it is one of the best companies out there and they develop your skills for new opportunities.

I worked at Société Générale full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The best reasons to work at Societe Generale is that it is a good company and they care about their employees .

    Cons

The cons are that it can be very hard to understand what they are talking about since the company is based in Paris France.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management is that you should listen to employees since they are the life and blood of the company.

I worked at Société Générale as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great pay (hourly!) which was capped at 45 hrs a week by HR for S&T interns. Even so, I and many other interns frequently worked more and were still compensated.

Friendly environment, everyone was helpful and kind.

Free breakfast (up to $4 worth) if you get in before 7AM!

    Cons

Intern program is not well developed. There weren't any networking/social events organized other than a weekly lunch and learn. That made it difficult to network with people in other divisions/floors in the bank.

Quite heavy concentration of French speakers. Overall not an issue but can be slightly isolating for non French speakers

    Advice to Management

    Develop the intern program better.
