I have been working at Société Générale full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Flat organisation: your title is not relevant if you have something intelligent to say. Intranet doesn’t even show corporate titles - Great vacations, work from home, work-life balance - Excellent mobility - Good balance of French constructive debate vs USA speed of execution

    Cons

    - French labor laws make it difficult to fire poor performers. This is not noteworthy in USA but painfully obvious in Paris

I worked at Société Générale for more than a year

    Pros

Not anything that I can think of, except that you'd get to learn to work under extreme pressures. Free coffee and free fruit (only if you reach office before 7 AM).

    Cons

    1) If you are coming from tech side, there is nothing really to learn. Teams would still prefer to manage the production environment manually. There is a lack of vision to automate the production environment that handles billions of orders to various markets, and still everything is messy and maintained manually. 2) People, especially managers, are very rude. If you are a newcomer, you will be yelled at and left to... figure out yourself if you do not understand anything in their in-house applications. This is how they prefer to train newcomers which is not at all humane. 3) If you are a contractor, you might be denied partaking in some of employee knowledge-improvement activities like Hackathons and tech talks. 4) Contractors get paid peanuts compared to full time employees. 5) Being a French bank, you would hardly hear English conversations across the work floors. 6) Poor work/life balance. You are expected to work insane amount of hours every day, usually 10 to 11 hours a day. 6) Stay away from this bank, if you would love to build a great career and maintain a good work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

    1) Please appoint managers who do not lack vision to modernize the in-house applications. 2) Offer more perks at work apart from free coffee. Many other banks in the city offer better perks and work environment. 3) Most importantly, invest more into making use of latest technological offering to modernize a couple of decade old applications and try to follow other banks who have gone way ahead in the race.

I worked at Société Générale full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I don’t see any. I thought SocGen focuses on work life balance but it is not.

    Cons

Very French management; They chitchat in French next to you all the time and you feel very uncomfortable because you don’t know what they are talking about; Long hour work (8 to 8); I saw some analyst or associate newbies in my team were given 10 to 15 documents (and very unorganized) and expect you to self learn all materials in less than a week

    Advice to Management

No advice because they won’t listen to it

    Pros

    Vacation days & 401k match

    Cons

Work life balance, lack of leadership

    Advice to Management

There is a sigfnifiant lack of leadership in the department. The attititude and tone of managment has caused significant demotivation of staff.
