    Pros

Generous Pay, Flexible with Shifts, Health Benefits, Job Security, Casual Environment.

    Cons

Being timed on everything you do, having to deal with a lot of negativity from callers, stressful job.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the level of stress that Reps have to deal with and complimenting or awarding employees on work that is well done goes a long way in job performance.

I have been working at Social Security Administration full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The best things about working here are: making a difference in the lives of people, the benefits (time off, health insurance, retirement plan), and flexible work schedule.

    Cons

The worst things about working here are it is laden with politics. Management is not professional and reviews and Promotions are arbitrary.

    Advice to Management

Although the official agency's line is that "promotion is based on merit", we all know that that is not true. People are selected for leadership development programs, details, and Promotions based on personal interaction with management. I know as being a former member of management myself.

    Pros

I'm able and willing to work part time, about 20 hours per week.

    Cons

    Pros

    Federal benefits
    No age discrimination
Easy workflow, with tons of opportunities to change what you do. Blah blah blah blah

    Cons

#1 targeted place for attacks. Higher up don't look at the needs of the employers at time. Blah blah blah

I have been working at Social Security Administration full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good Pay
    Good Benefits
Depending on your office, limited public contact.

    Cons

If you don't want to be in management/management like jobs it's a little harder to get higher GS jobs in comparison to other agencies.

    Advice to Management

Management is always in a bind, they have to enforce stuff they themselves don't like. I hate the politics of management but I understand

I have been working at Social Security Administration full-time

    Pros

Excellent flex time, good benefits, decent salary, and job security. Can really make a difference in people's lives as a public servant.

    Cons

Rampant incompetence and no accountability for lazy workers. They are virtually impossible to terminate, let alone reprimand, they go running to the union (also equally worthless if you are a good worker). This creates a toxic environment where a competent, diligent worker will feel taken advantage of and become resentful and seek opportunities elsewhere, where their efforts are better appreciated and rewarded.

    Advice to Management

Please talk to liaisons in congress or the heads at headquarters to make workers more accountable. They are doing a disservice to the taxpayers and their fellow colleagues who actually care and pick up the slack for their indolence and incompetence. Please listen to suggestions to expedite service and streamline costs from those of us in the field.
