I have been working at Social Security Administration full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay with flexible hours. Vacation, Sick Leave, and training.

    Cons

Management is very poor and no experience in their title. Extreme favoritism for promotions no matter how hard you work and your yearly evaluation. Nepotism is rampant with generations of family and friends. Decisions are made fast without thinking, extremely reactive and not proactive. If you are thinking about starting a career here I would look into a State job with better retirement incentives. There is extreme waist of government money, for example I see thousands of dollars of equipment never used and then trashed. I only work in one department so this is millions of dollars waisted nation wide.

    Advice to Management

Stop the nepotism and promotions based on time in service and favoritism. Start hiring people from the private sector instead of cross training employees with no experience wasting valuable time to teach this person, which is an extreme waist of time and resources. Start promoting directors who know the job. There are Directors that have little to no experience in their job. How can you run department or office when you do not know how it works to and try make million dollar decisions. There is fear in management to discipline an employee or fire an employee. This is causing hostile work environments with employees disrespecting management. Just because a person has been with the agency for 20 years does not mean they can get away with anything. Employees know they can't be fired so they do the bare minimum work and still receive a high evaluation. Last stop cutting departments staff in half causing low morale and great employees leaving for another agency or the private sector. I worked for three agencies and this place is the worst due to inexperienced management!

If the public knew how this place is ran and the government money being waisted your employment with the agency will not be long!
