  • Excellent work life balance with work from home option (in my project) (in 45 reviews)

    I have been working at Sogeti full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Sense of community with strong support, diverse opportunities, great benefits, education reimbursement, bonus program, advancement counseling, and more....

    Cons

    Not Sogeti-specific but more on consulting in general: You can get some less-than-ideal work depending on client. That happens anywhere thought.

    Pros

    - MSDN subscription (finally after several years of asking)
    - Benifits are pretty good ( excellent 401k matching, reasonable health ins.)

    Cons

    - management borderline incompetent
    - unresponsive to employee & client comments/requests/needs
    - zero loyality ( eg. hire/fire)
    - incompetent sales staff.
    - fear that if your assignment ends they would rather fire you than try to find more work.

    Advice to Management

    Management & sales should cater to the needs of the client and the consultants. Their satisfaction should be your one and only priority.

    Pros

    Sogeti forces you to learn new technology quickly, since they will frequently sell you as having skills you do not have.

    Cons

    Limited career growth.
    Management focused on sales and metrics and not on the consultants.
    Lack of any real training. I haven't had a Sogeti-sponsored class in 8 years.
    The same day they lay off people for being on the bench too long, they'll send out recruiting emails for referrals.

    Advice to Management

    The consultans are your only real assets. You need to realize that the consultants you are angering today, may just be the decision-makers at potential clients in the future. I think we're already atrting to see evidence of this.

    Pros

    Most consultants are good at sharing if you network with them - consultants are usually actively trying to find a more solid firm than Sogeti (either better consulting company or with a long term employer) and are willing to be helpful.

    Cons

    Do not sign anything but barebones agreement to get brought on board since revolving door management changes have broken any personal bonds that have existed in the last few years.
    These are tough salespeople with very high overhead in a very tough market which they are failing in and as a result have sunk to playing a dishonest game to get clients. Very little depth of business potential other than from the current assignment.

    Advice to Management

    Be Honest, explain the true nature of the business you are selling, if you want to present yourself as a consulting company, structure yourself as a consulting company.

    Pros

    Much larger job pool,for people to find opportunities.
    Benefits package is pretty good.

    Cons

    HR/Management does not care about you.
    Company truly seems to have a gang/mafia mentality when it comes to your tenure. Once you join, they don't want you to ever leave and they have the non-compete to back it up.

    Advice to Management

    Work on convincing people to be loyal to you.

    Pros

    Anyone considering a position with Sogeti must realize that each unit is vastly different from other units. For broad corporate benefits things are the same, but at the individual level things can differ. For example, one unit might claim “no travel required,” but for units that can’t get local business travel might be more frequent, as is the case in Tampa, FL.

    - MSDN subscription.
    - Paid Microsoft certification exams (if you pass).
    - Opportunity to travel to aid other units with their projects.
    - Mileage reimbursement and travel/food reimbursement, although can be somewhat stingy and cheap about certain expenses. Don’t expect a 5-star hotel or first class flights.
    - No premiums for health insurance coverage, but high deductible before the insurance covers anything.
    - PTO rolls over to next year, converted to COMP time.
    - COMP time accrued for *billable* overtime
    - Bonus plan can pay anywhere from $3000-$15,000 extra annually based on performance, trading in COMP time, and if you manage to earn sales-related points from a project.
    - 401K with upto 6% match, profit sharing with 3% match (used to be 5%).

    If you need to build experience this place might be for you, otherwise consider other options or a better consulting firm.

    Cons

    - Very low pay compared to the market rate. They will low-ball your salary offer tremendously and try to highlight their health insurance and bonus program as a way to make up for it. Negotiate a good base salary.
    - No mentoring; they’ll throw you into the deep end to sink or swim. The Counselor Program is a ghost program.
    - Management in FL has been around forever and doesn’t communicate well. Lack of respect and thoughtfulness when dealing with employees. The only time they act nice is when they first interview you and when they want you to start on a new client.
    - Account Executives are somewhat clueless about the technology and might present you to a client which you’re not a good fit for.
    - Management adores a few “golden children” at the units and makes it obvious. Those are the people who get attributed on statements of work (SOW) and rake in big bonuses. This harms the ability of other qualified consultants from shining and being trusted with the same type of responsibility.
    - Management doesn’t respect work/life balance all the time. They have been known to ask some consultants leaving one client for a new one to continue working on issues for the previous client. That work isn’t going down in your timesheet as billable usually, and you certainly aren’t getting a dime for your work. Non-billable overtime doesn’t earn you any COMP time.
    - High attrition rate. Two people that interviewed me left the company by the time I accepted my offer, with 5 more leaving that same year. Six people left the year I left, with 3 more that I know of on their way out soon.
    - When business is slow they may lay you off or ask you to travel.
    - Mainly staff augmentation work, not many green field development opportunities.
    - FL units go after repeat business, despite being around for several years, and find it hard to gain new clients.
    - Bonus plan is hit or miss and isn’t guaranteed. You can perform great one year, raking in a bunch, and next year get zilch. They’re constantly tweaking the plan yearly, making it sound like it’s in our benefit, but it’s actually harder to get anything and the amounts have shrunk at the various levels. Account Executives also tend to work out deals with clients to attract business by offering consultants for free (i.e., non-billable) for a few weeks, which affects the points you accrue for any meaningful bonus plan category. Non-billable means you’re a company burden, so your profitability points drop.
    - PTO roll over is nice, but it is converted to COMP time which you don’t get paid for if you leave the company or get laid off.
    - Quarterly unit meetings are on your own time after-hours.
    - Sometimes your work on a Statement of Work (SOW) can get attributed to someone else, which shrinks your piece of the pie and affects your bonus if the SOW results in new business. No real justification who gets credit sometimes.

    Advice to Management

    Long tenure at the company has caused attitudes to be nonchalant and insincere. Enable your consultants and recognize them based on skill rather than on how much business they bring in for you. That job is for the Account Executives and for the VPs. Pay competitive salaries and treat your employees better; the rate of attrition is ridiculous and management’s attitude towards it is passive. Come up with a good bonus plan, make it attainable, and stop changing it every 6-12 months.

    Pros

    If you like staff augmentation then this company is for you. They have been in business for a long time so they have built up relationships with companies so being staffed may come easier. Benefits are decent, but nothing that an extra $10 per hour can't buy. They only do work that is local to their location, but this can also be a double edged sword where if the local area is experiencing job loss then this is a very bad thing for you. If you want to further your career by becoming a sales man then this job is ideal because that is where all roads lead in order to advance.

    Cons

    If you like being a consultant vs just a warm body filling some seat then this staff augmentation based company is not for you. This company does not like to invest in their people or the infrastructure. Ultimately this is a French owned company so a huge portion of the profits are piped back to Capgemini. You had better remain billable with one of their clients (Even if it is work that you don't like), or there is a high likely hood that they will let you go. Just ask the dozens of consultants who stayed billable for years and then were let go on their first day back to the bench. This company is known for taking away pay and benefits from the employees in order to accommodate a certain profitability margin.

    Advice to Management

    The consultants that are under your employ are not liabilities and thus should be treated like assets where you invest in those assets and thus making your company stronger. Making retro-active benefit changes mid-year is clearly not ethical so stand by your benefit decisions all year long as this will earn respect from the employees. Focus more on becoming more transparent with the work rather than keeping everyone at bay in their own silo.

    Pros

    Good 401k and usually there's a bonus deposit to the 401k in the middle of the year. They provide the full MSDN to developers along with a so so laptop. Pretty decent amount of vacation time once you hit 3 years.

    Cons

    You'll go where they need you be ready to be sold as an expert in something you've spent two day's on. The Sales reps tend to play favorites both in who they place where and providing points towards your year end bonus. When you land a project expect to be there from six months to several years there's not really any short term projects.

    Advice to Management

    If your going to provide us with laptops don't tailor them to the sales reps and go for the middle of the road dell's something with a decent amount of screen space and disk space will go a long way's towards making the development process easier. Also don't go changing the year end promotion process at the last minute.
