I have been working at SolarCity full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company culture is positive. I believe the top level execs (Lyndon and Pete) really want to make a difference in the world. They are seeking ways to bring the company back to the heyday. Positive moves recently made to bring back some of the original visionaries. I hope it's not too late

    Cons

Solar should not be sold over the phone. The market has shifted. Residential customers are more savvy now. Competition is more than willing to send a rep to the customer's home and give a consultation. I realize SolarCity has outside reps. Company has reverted to a volume structure where they are buying leads. Quality of opportunities is poor.
Very tough to make a living wage anymore. Company is contracting after growing too rapidly.

    Advice to Management

Use FEC role as a hybrid. Route the leads to the outside team. Let the FEC determine if the job can be sold over the phone or better in person with an appointment. The days of selling solar over the phone are done.

I have been working at SolarCity full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very easy to get a job in any position.

    Cons

They have turned their inside sales into a boiler telemarketing room. Don't care about the people. Only about the numbers each month. They're churning and burning through people.

    Advice to Management

Don't hire directors that don't have the previous experience and lied on their resume, just to get the job. Might want to hire more stable directors and ones that arent on drugs.

I worked at SolarCity full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They like to think it is a fun place to work.

    Cons

In my 10 years of sales experience I have never been asked to work that hard for he amount of money they pay you. In the interview they will sell you on how great the company is and how reps here make over $100k a year. Which is not the case an average rep there makes $40k a year if you make it to a year. There is a very high turn over. The product they want you to sell is most expensive in the industry and is not even close to the best. They will want you to drink the company juice and get of the "we are the best ship", but its smoke and mirrors. It is a 2 week training for a reason, if you actually learned about the products and what the competition is selling you will have a hard time selling this product to your friends and family. If this is your first sales gig or you only option for employment do it till you find something better, but this is not a company that you can build a career with. Good luck

    Advice to Management

Stop worrying about growing the business as fast as possible and focus on running the best solar company possible. rapid growth + poorly ran = bubble

I have been working at SolarCity full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Making a positive change in the world and all the tools needed to do so

    Cons

Constant change, not allowing for cause and effect to take place.

    Advice to Management

lead by example, feels like there is a big disconnect between upper level management and the rest of the employees.
