    Pros

    I learned a lot. Very willing to train people. Had some excellent coworkers

    Cons

    Boys club. It's hard for a woman to succeed in some departments. Very conservative company, afraid of change and sometimes their own shadow. Capricious marketing department, can't stick with a decision to save their life, plus they lack communication among their own department. Very frustrating to work with. Spent many years receiving only 1% or less raise.

    Advice to Management

    Make some decisions and stick with them. Don't be afraid to try something different. Stop trying to copy competition, instead differentiate yourself in the market.

    I worked at Solo Cup (More than a year)

    Pros

    Close to home and definite attempt to balance work life.

    Cons

    Company was in the process of relocating to Michigan and all jobs were going away.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your people - many decisions were made that made no sense because someone at the top of the tier of the org. thought that was best.

    Pros

    Nothing about this company except for years ago when there were still smart people and the ones still there are treated like garbage

    Cons

    Unethical management. Look in the mirror Dart, your employees have brains, utilize their skills.

    Pros

    Pay is decent.
    Some good people to work with.
    Benefits are ok.

    Cons

    Modern day slavery.
    Unethical Management.
    While the plant manager is ok, those right below him in the chain of command are terrible. They constantly work against him and the new owners policies.

    Advice to Management

    Management engages in some very unethical behavior. They promote relatives and friends over more qualified people. The "buddy system" is so rampant at the Dallas plant that you literally stand no chance of promotion unless you're from the now closed Baltimore plant. These guys do little work, and basically just show up to collect a check. Dallas plant management despises that they were bought out by Dart, and regularly slander Dart corporate up in MI. Dart really needs to get down there and clean house.

    I have been working at Solo Cup full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    There are absolutely no pros. The pay was about average.

    Cons

    This was the worst job ever. I took it out of desperation and stayed with it for a year simply to pay student loans. Management was horrible and ran the company into the ground.

    Advice to Management

    Maybe if you treated your employees with just a bit of respect and paid attention to the pricing you approved at negative margins you wouldn't have been bought out by Dart.

    Pros

    Not many pros. Its convenient, and the pay is ok.

    Cons

    Horrible management. Expectations change daily. There is alot of favoritism, the rules only apply to some people, sometimes. There is limited room for advancement and thats only if you've made friends with the right people. Hours have been cut back since being bought out by Dart. No communication about the future or when things are going to pick back up. Maintenance is horribls, things are fixed just enough to make them run. No real preventative maintenance. When you are doing well there is no recognition, but if anything goes wrong there is hell to pay. In the summer it gets HOT!

    Advice to Management

    Be more open, know whats going on, and don't keep changing expectations.

    Good benefits (for now)
    Paid holidays (for now)

    Cons

    Solo Cup is like a baby...Upper management is the dirty diaper...if Dart doesn't dispose of that diaper, the baby will continue to smell bad & no one will want to stay & play with the baby. Nothing is going to change as long as the "powers that be" (and I use that term loosely) keep making crappy decisions that make no sense at all.
    Poor maintenance, 24/7 plant, but no 24/7 maintenance. And what "maintenance" we do have stinks as well. Machines down for long periods of time because cannot get ahold of any maintenance (that are on call) to come in.
    Again with upper management, poor attitudes, only care for themselves. Very closed minded. Will not listen to any ideas that are presented to them. Will not even listen to another person's point of view. And you might as well look for another job if you disagree with one of their ideas. If it is something that they think is good, it's not even open for discussion...the employees are doing it. Their response? "Well if they don't like it, they can leave!" And heaven help you if you have a life outside of work. Again, if it's something they want, "Well, you'd just better plan on changing your homelife because we're doing this?" "HOW DARE YOU HAVE A LIFE!" But they can leave in the middle of the afternoon and be gone for the rest of the day. Dart needs to (secretly) have some of their reps show up at these plants at 4:00 pm on a Friday & see how many of their upper management is still in their offices. Hell, even show up at 3:30pm!

    Advice to Management

    Dart needs to have an open & honest talk with all the employees. Find out their concerns & frustrations. NOT THE MANAGEMENT! If the employees are reassured that their jobs are not in jeopardy, they will open up & tell the truth about what really goes on in the plants. All management will do is put their little spin on it & then go about treating the employees as bad as before. Let the employees speak for themselves, not the management.

    Pros

    good people work there, that is the best reason. I have made many friends there. short commute. The benefits are decent.

    Cons

    Management. nobody ever tells you when you do a good job but when you make a mistake, everybody is there getting mad at you. work environment sucks. no morale. too much favortism. Its just not a good place to work.

    Advice to Management

    Treat everyone fairly and have some common decency. You gotta give respect to get it. If I do something wrong, come tell me, dont send someone else to tell me.
