I worked at Solo Cup full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This was a good company to work for, my time was short because of a management decision to sell the company to Dart Industries Inc.

    Cons

My only regret was that I did not have vesting rights and suffered a lay-off.

    Pros

This was great place to work for at one time. The BenEfits and work life balance was great. The pay was not great. I felt there was not much opportunity for growth either.

    Cons

    More opportunities and better pay

I have been working at Solo Cup full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Not many pros. Its convenient, and the pay is ok.

    Cons

Horrible management. Expectations change daily. There is alot of favoritism, the rules only apply to some people, sometimes. There is limited room for advancement and thats only if you've made friends with the right people. Hours have been cut back since being bought out by Dart. No communication about the future or when things are going to pick back up. Maintenance is horribls, things are fixed just enough to make them run. No real preventative maintenance. When you are doing well there is no recognition, but if anything goes wrong there is hell to pay. In the summer it gets HOT!

    Advice to Management

Be more open, know whats going on, and don't keep changing expectations.

I worked at Solo Cup full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Got to interact with senior management on a daily basis. Had a great boss who was transparent in expectations and goals. Was able to interact with different departments on a daily basis.

    Cons

Very negative environment. Went through a selling of the company while I still worked there. High turnover rate in an analyst role due to extremely low moral. Additionally this is located outside of the city which makes for a very long commute... and the job makes the commute not worth it.

    Advice to Management

Be a positive influence, do not spread negativity

    Pros

The company has great opportunity for growth. Everyone know's Solo Cup. Looks good on a resume.

    Cons

Making the employees move to Michigan is the biggest reason everyone is leaving now.

I have been working at Solo Cup full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Compensated fairly
    Low Stress Job
    Most Employees are Friendly
    Solid Benefits

    Cons

Outside trying to get a raise, nothing is done to motivate employees.
    Upper management is never seen
    Poor communication between departments
Lots of employees that don't carry their weight
    Boring

    Advice to Management

Understand your employees and their jobs better. I have never been asked for any input about anything by anyone outside of my immediate supervisor. How do you know how well my supervisor is doing if his/her employees are never asked about his/her performance?

I have been working at Solo Cup full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Competitive pay, affordable benefits, excellent location easily reachable via interstate or train, tried to keep as many people on as possible during the economic meltdown, 10 paid holidays per year, 38.5 hour work week but paid for 40.

    Cons

Front-line management. No praise when you do a good job, but when you make a mistake, there is hell to pay. Micromanagement, no chance to think on your own. The place is awash in favoritism. If you don't go to lunch or out for cocktails with the "right" people, you will not get ahead, no matter how smart you are or how many academic degrees you have.

    Advice to Management

Empower employess to make operational decisions on a day-to-day basis to run the business, cut back on managers. Promote the people who are truly the most talented, not the ones who are your Facebook friends.
