May 17, 2018 - Legal Assistant in Albany, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Most coworkers are a pleasure to work with.
Cons
-There is very little training, and in fact very few employees left that know what they're doing enough to teach new employees. -Management & "HR" do not listen seriously to employee concerns. -Employees are expected to do their work without sufficient BASIC office supplies. -Management frequently changes procedures without telling employees and then criticizes employees for errors they weren't aware they were making. -The whole company is run in a very secretive manner and employees are often given very little notice of any type of change, including their desk moving departments, & their job responsibilities changing. The turnover rate is very high (almost 40 in 1 year) because everyone is overwhelmed and each time an employee leaves, their work gets shoved onto someone else's plate. The current Management thinks that they can personally take over each person's job who leaves, rather than just hiring more employees. There used to be attorneys who were pleasant to work with and patient with the staff. However the attorneys that are left are extremely rude, unapproachable, and most definitely not forgiving of mistakes which are due to lack of training. So many employees dislike the other attorneys, that the majority of the work went to the attorneys that were pleasant to work with.

Despite all of the negative reviews...

You will learn a lot working at Solomon and Solomon. It's a great place for a hard working, highly organized, driven individuals to gain knowledge in legal process . I worked there for a year and a half and my time was very positive. The company has changed tremendously since my first couple of weeks ( for the better!) Management cares for their employees and wants them to feel good about coming to work everyday and excelling in what they do. If you don't understand something, there are many people who have been there for years to ask. Even the president herself has no problem explaining or teaching if she needs to. It's like a family, as busy as you may be, no one is ever too busy to pitch in if you need a hand or if you're feeling overwhelmed. I highly recommend working here.
Cons
I have no negative comments

Pros
Managers at the company are all nice and understand you have a life outside of the place.
Cons
Pay is horrible, very unprofessional on my second day at the place one of the employees was crying because she wasn't number one on the bored and she is 50 something years old.

Pros
The co workers are amazing and look out for one another
Cons
The turn over rate is extremely high as the pay is very low and not conducive to the work load that you are given. Each time someone quits you are expected to do their work in addition to your own. You are not given overtime to do the extra work. Given the high turn over rate, any file a previous co worker had will get dumped on you. This is regardless of if you have the training or not to work on that file. Management refuses to hire replacements for employees who quit, because they cannot afford to do so. Office supplies are not easy to come by and management frequently refuses to order more. The lack of training is evident within your first week. You have several people training you on how to do one process and each person does the process a completely different way. There is no guide to follow as you navigate through a legal process. The management here is way below subpar. People get promoted because they threaten to quit, regardless of if they have management experience or not. Any way that management can find to cut costs will be taken, regardless of the negative effect it will have on the employees of the company. Anything you say to the management team in confidence is gossiped through the office. Management gossips about other employees in the confines of their offices. The remaining lawyers treat the staff with disrespect and are unpleasant to work for. Employees are belittled in team meetings and made to feel that their work is meaningless. Management does not listen to you when you bring up a concern or something that you need help with. Employees in other departments will tell you how to do your job, even though they have never worked in your department.

This employer doesn't consider their employees.
Apr 28, 2014 - Commercial Collections Supervisor in Utica, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
There are no pros for this employer. I say this because this company is the worst I've worked for in my 25 year work history.
Cons
They alter their procedures without notice. They do not offer raises. They make it difficult to make a bonus. You are never comfortable to bring in personal items. There is a discord between upper management and the actual collectors. It is difficult to get decisive answers from upper management

Pros
Coworkers are decently nice. The work itself is easy enough to do once you start to get the hang of it.
Cons
The attorneys that are left are vile and rude. Hours are strictly monitored as to not exceed 40 a week. Ridiculously high turnover rate because no one enjoys being there after they see how the firm operates. Employees are grossly underpaid and overworked due to being short-staffed (because upper management can’t afford to hire replacements for everyone who leaves). The place is being run into the ground.
