I have been working at Solution Design Group full-time

    Pros

I have been with sdg a number of years. sdg continues to hire talented employees that align with their core values – customers, employees and the community. Everyone seems to be on the same page. You hear about the core values throughout the interview process, when onboarding, and throughout the year. sdg isn’t perfect but by striving to stay true to their core values, the egos and personal agendas that you see at many...

    Cons

If you don’t align with sdg’s core values, it isn’t the place for you. Also, consulting isn’t for everyone. There are challenging clients and projects. sdg services the entire Twin Cities, so depending upon where you live you may have a less than desirable commute sometimes. You don't get to pick your assignments (although you have some input). However, if you are looking to be a part of an organization and...

    Advice to Management

Success can be a slippery slope. There are many good consultants in town for companies to work with and there are many good job opportunities where talented tech people can work at. Stay humble. Stay respectful. Stay trustworthy. Stay true to your core values.

    - It’s a great team atmosphere - The skill set of the team members is top notch - A group that works hard and plays hard - Many optional events to connect - Spot awards to say “thank you” - Use of company cabins - Best all company meetings ever! - Awesome support staff - Resource managers dedicated to helping you succeed

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work!! But in reality, there really is no management. It’s a bunch of talented and dedicated people working together for each other, client success and the community.

I have been working at Solution Design Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Having worked for sdg for over three years I have a bit more of a detailed review of what it's like to work at sdg: The ops (management) team puts in a ton of effort to make the consultants feel valued and happy. They hold many different meetings and parties throughout the year for the consultants which always have lots of yummy food and drinks. The resource managers (a consultants first point of contact) make...

    Cons

Three years in and the complaints I have are few and fairly minor... If a client doesn't provide you with a computer setup then sdg will provide you with one... The equipment sdg provides is pretty much garbage (think laptops with 4gb of RAM, i5, no SSD). These setups would be ok for an average consumer, but this is a tech firm so you would think they would provide a little better equipment for consultants running...

      Pros

As an sdg consultant, I experience the following: great camaraderie with talented co-workers, fantastic culture, meaningful & interesting project work with varied technologies, legitimate work-life balance, and the satisfying feeling that you matter and your contributions are valued. Love working here

      Cons

No cons. It is the best place that I have ever worked.

      Advice to Management

I have been working at Solution Design Group full-time for more than a year

      Pros

The ESOP concept lends it's self well to building a diverse team of the best. It is clear that finding applicants with extraordinary talent and experience always supersedes a need for revenue growth. Being an ESOP also allows sdg to carefully chose the clients they work with, projects are correctly staffed and well supported leading to a pleasant work environments. Consulting can be an isolated lonely business however...

      Pros

Really awesome organization. There's a sense of team and camaraderie here that I haven't experienced with other consulting organizations.

      Cons

None really. As another reviewer said, sometimes the projects/clients aren't the most interesting, but that's business.

I have been working at Solution Design Group full-time for more than a year

      Pros

I didn't know a company like this existed - they treat everyone with extreme respect and are truly caring and friendly people at every level. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work here.

      Cons

In consulting there are tough clients at times, but that's the same everywhere.

      Advice to Management

As we're growing and adding new areas of consulting, it's fascinating to watch how well everything is executed and the quality and pace at which this is being done whilst maintaining our core values. Exemplary.

I have been working at Solution Design Group full-time for more than a year

      Pros

It is hard to find a company that respects their employees and values their own like more than a cog in a machine. This is a company that strives not only to treat their employees with respect, but also a great work/life balance and aids them to be the best they can be for their clients!

      Cons

What is there to say that is bad about them? There really isn't anything I can think of.

I worked at Solution Design Group full-time

      Pros

      - The home office culture is fantastic. When I joined their team it was like being the newest member of a happy little neighborhood. Everyone in the office somehow knew my name, and for the first time in my professional career, I saw people smile as we walked past each other down the cubicle isles. - The employees are highly skilled and highly passionate. They are some of the most engaged people I've worked with and...

      Cons

      - It's consulting/contracting. Sometimes you're required to learn deprecated languages and associated technologies so you can enhance a client's code base from 2008. - Though the home office culture is great, you only experience that when working at the home office. Otherwise, you'll experience and adhere to the culture of the client's workplace, which will most likely be a Fortune 100 corporate company environment...
