I have been working at Solvay Advanced Polymers full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Compensation, and Benefits, and work balance

    Cons

    Management tends to show favoritism.
Plants are segregated for the most part.
Very few women hired as chemical operator.

    Advice to Management

Diversity among the plants are needed.
Laying-off / furloughing people during major holidays is not to thier benefit, plus it creates financial hardship for contractors that work very hard to help you meet year end goals.

I have been working at Solvay Advanced Polymers (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Fantastic hands on learning for a student currently studying mechanical engineering
    - Direct customer contact
    - Meaningful projects that you have full or most of the responsibility for
    - Fantastic community

    Cons

    - The only con that I can think of is that, in general, they only have one intern working at a time. I hope they amend this policy to allow at least one other intern

    Advice to Management

As said above, I would absolutely suggest hiring interns in pairs. While both could be assigned different projects, it is always beneficial to be able to run an idea by a peer before presenting it to your supervisor or upper management.

I worked at Solvay Advanced Polymers (Less than a year)

    Pros

good pay good people easy work nice benefits good promotions poor training.

    Cons

very bad chemicals. deadly stuff, lots of maintenance people get hurt,

    Advice to Management

get a brain. you need trainers, drills, spend a little money to keep your people skilled at everything to keep them safe. running in circles screaming at employees does not help them. it just make you look stupid.

    Pros

Benefits are good. they have 401k plans, and a partial help tuition program. It is a professional organized work environment. I would recommend working here if you can put up with the cons.

    Cons

Management is too strict. They like to micromanage and try to find something wrong you did so they can write you up. They try to blame employees for everything that goes wrong. Especially when it comes to safety.

I worked at Solvay Advanced Polymers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The perks such as lunches, and some great people outside of my department. Opportunities to grow if liked well enough.
    Great education reimbursement.

    Cons

Management never seemed to know what was going on at the floor. Negative mindset and some bad attitudes. There needs to be more code of conduct training with men towards ladies

    Advice to Management

Really walk the walk. Know what's going on at the floor. Don't assume.

I worked at Solvay Advanced Polymers full-time

    Pros

Solvay has a very good training and development program if you able to take advantage of it. Benefits are good; compensation is good.

    Cons

Executive managers can be jerks. They do not need your recommendation or input since they have already made the decision. It is a fast paced environment. If you are not identified as a golden boy" you will be relegated to a life of mediocrity.
