I have been working at Solvay full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Compensation, and Benefits, and work balance

    Cons

Management tends to show favoritism. Plants are segregated for the most part. Very few women hired as chemical operator.

    Advice to Management

Diversity among the plants are needed. Laying-off / furloughing people during major holidays is not to thier benefit, plus it creates financial hardship for contractors that work very hard to help you meet year end goals.

    Pros

Promotes self redirected work force. Follow workers are awesome.

    Cons

They do what they want. Changing policy to get rid of people. Always Operators fault, management doesn't take responsibly for them selves.

    Pros

The salary is fantastic. Most of the people are great to work with.

    Cons

The rotating shift was tough to get use to. Sometimes manpower issues do not get handled as well or as quickly as they should.

I have been working at Solvay full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Opportunities to financially benefit through training and certification. Employee retention is high. Offers benefits and retirement match program.

    Cons

Unionized hourly employees. No room for growth into other areas of the business. Very demanding on employees. Management doesn't resonate with operations/hourly cooperation. Work-Life balance very unstable.

I have been working at Solvay full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good people to work with, (fairly) recession-proof segment of the economy

    Cons

Management at site sets personal vendettas against disliked employees, no fairness in treatment, no training program whatsoever- whatever job you have, expect to have it forever, company has had no clue how to handle a production facility this diverse or this in need of infrastructure improvement and uses spaghetti marketing in it's attempts to maintain/improve processes, weak-sauce union representation- if you make... a mistake, don't expect the union to be able to help you keep your job, poor safety policies and follow through on said policies

    Advice to Management

From a corporate standpoint, move the current crop of managers and engineers on to other locations and start fresh here. The corporate culture at this location is one of distrust and inability to follow through. There is no defined direction except to expect to be walked out the front gate if you make any mistake. Listen to employee suggestions that would improve the processes and process safety at the location.... We're all in this together and we all want to make a decent living- there is no need to have such an adversarial relationship with the skilled employees.

I worked at Solvay full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Decent pay and the benefits aren't bad. Global company. The associates are knowledgeable and strive for excellence with their product.

    Cons

The company is leaving the NE and transferring to the Gulf area. Management provides no guidance and has a tendency to create a hostile work environment (in my opinion).

    Advice to Management

More training and learn people skills along with honesty.
