I have been working at Sonic Healthcare full-time

    Pros

The company is stable and fine to work at.

    Cons

The industry is rooted in the "if it's not broke, don't fix it" attitude. Little room for creativity or change.

I worked at Sonic Healthcare full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They hire students and new graduates.

    Cons

Unprofessional management. They intimidate their employees. Terminate by making up lies when they don't like someone.

    Advice to Management

Pay closer attention to your Supervisors behavior.
Believe what employees are telling you. Take a close look at how many Supervisors have been unfairly terminated recently.

I have been working at Sonic Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

No micromanaging, life & work balance is good, get to learn new technologies,

    Cons

Work that I perform does not match my title, favoritism, too many major outages, too big of company for such a small work force.

    Pros

    Challenging work environment, solid employees

    Cons

    Poor benefits and time off

    Advice to Management

Look at the competition in the market. The benefits have to improve and the time off needs to be adjusted due to the lack of holidays.

    Pros

The front line staff within corporate and the respective client counterparts are immensely talented and great to work with.

    Cons

All levels of corporate leadership. They ALWAYS point fingers, make excuses for each other, accept NO responsibility, nor do they exemplify any VALUE Sonic touts (oh and no one knows what those are anyway, because leadership does not speak about them- or anything else- NO COMMUNICATION FROM LEADERS!!).
There is no regard/respect for controlling costs in logical ways, so front liners bear that burden. Divisiveness abounds. Healthcare costs are ridiculous. It's as if someone gave the highest quote imaginable with the worst deductibles and OOPs to insure 1000s and we just said, where do I sign...a student could have negotiated a better package that what we have.

    Main departments:
    Quality and Regulatory:
Does not exist...what? in a lab environment? Yes, you heard correct, not at the corporate level.

    Development:
Plays the flavor of the day methodology, without embracing any one thing and sticking to it, or being good at it. Rather than having standards, exceptions are the rule. Does not deliver what is promised. It took 1.5 years to get code promised 2 years ago. After many excuses for delays, still only half baked.

    Production and Support:
Probably the best thing about Sonic IT. Needs a better plan to get staff more knowledgeable with ALL products.

    Infrastructure:
Getting better, but extremely overwhelmed. Also does not deliver what they promise. Lots of "i don't know" 2 year plan still not even 1/2 achieved in 4 years. Recurring theme, no accountability, cover for each other...no one will ever know.

    HR:
Hopefully getting there, but have a LONG way to go. No tools for managing and developing staff. Again, benefits are horrendous. Nothing to hold managers accountable to.

    Finance and Accounting:
Still a long way to go...LOTS of mistakes and carelessness. Financial loss coverups across clients

    Sales:
Not too bad either, but as any sales area, sometimes promises vaporware and puts the teams in tougher positions than they already are. This also goes to Australians who talk to US clients and make them promises..the business models are different despite what you may think. Something that works in AU does not mean it will work in US, nor should it. We are not as dumb as you think.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the good ol boys, and their Uncle. Hire diversity, and enforce accountability and integrity, rather than Stepford Guys. Have new CEO be front and center, with Town Halls ACROSS the organization to occasionally to talk about company and where it is and where he wants it to be, so there are no surprises come performance eval time or any other time. Perhaps look to staff to find out their ideas on how things may or may not help improve things, but do not use some idiotic suggestion box that has NO visibility to staff in terms of improvement, and the impact is limited to a small few anyway.

I worked at Sonic Healthcare full-time

    Pros

The company took care of their employees and I always felt welcome and heard. As a biology students, working in the lab was good experience. Even a few entry level positions with no degree requirements were available.

    Cons

Like most companies, they had a certain corporate-rigidness that I don't personally enjoy.

    Advice to Management

Lighten up and have fun. Rigid bosses that stress too easily often pass that stress on to their employees, making a whole department on edge.

    Pros

Decent pay for phlebotomist but unfair starting wages

    Cons

Terrible management, off site phlebs work with little to no supervision, witnessed many people late chronically or call offs and rules broken and no termination then others who work to the bone at a main facility and get constant harassment from management. Favoritism and extreme gossip and unprofessional staff

    Advice to Management

Keep your eyes on employees at off sites and treat all equally.

I have been working at Sonic Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

get paid on time, get to work with quite a few knowledgeable people but there is a revolving door

    Cons

does not value personal effort, achievement or accomplishments, short staffed, overworked and underpaid, review time of the year means same excuses followed by exodus

    Advice to Management

my advice is to quit making excuses to your employees, pay them at least average market. Management should be judged by the employees they cannot keep, not by the amount of money they don't spend.
