I have been working at Sonoco Products part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Hands-on experience, wide range of responsibilities, programming experience, work in close proximity with principal scientists, opportunities to grow.

    Cons

Not directly applicable to my current degree in Biomedical Engineering, would like more long term responsibilities, hard to get more hours during the summer due to a shortage of projects in our smaller office.

    Advice to Management

Have a hard time submitting projects with the new system, new supervisor has the office change current layout against scientists wishes.

    Pros

Safety of employees truly is #1 priority. Flexible work schedules. Ability and opportunity to move up within the company.

Keep doing what you are doing. Look for expansion especially in Northern midwest. Hire with the mindset of keeping individuals for long term.

I worked at Sonoco Products full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I loved most of my coworkers. Working at Sonoco felt like a family. They pay well also. I enjoyed waking up every morning to go to work.

If you fit in well and don't step on the wrong toes, it's a wonderful place to be.

    Cons

The favoritism at Sonoco is like a disease. The point system only strictly applies to some. I was fired for supposedly going over my 3-point maximum during my 90 day probationary period. However, my time card never worked, it seems suspicious that I had any points at all. Once I received my termination letter, none of the points that were discussed at my "firing" were on there. In addition, I never even finished my full orientation, which means I never got to ask any questions concerning the full attendance policy or the any of the safety regulations.

Also, the new supervisor who fired me had missed a few days himself and been more than 30 mins late and left more than two hours early. I was committed to my work and truly loved it there. However, it seemed someone was out to get me.

I did however, always feel on edge about the possibility of losing my job,

    Advice to Management

I would be sure to assess everyone's worth within the company. Take into consideration every asset each employee brings to the table. Don't allow petty opinions to cloud your judgement. Also, be fair to everyone, from the forklift drivers to the supervisors.
