I have been working at Sonoco Products full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Its a really laid back job and all the employees, managers, human resource, plant manager, and supervisors are all really good people. Really good pay.

    Cons

Its a really hot job and boring job. Also long hours because do 12 hour shifts everytime you work and its really hot and boring.

    Advice to Management

Don't have any advice for management because they all do their job very well

I worked at Sonoco Products full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Interesting and diverse product offering in a variety of packaging mediums. This also means you have some talented people with great knowledge within the Sonoco that understand best practices within these industries. The overall concern for employee safety is top notch and part of the base values of the company.

    Cons

For such a large company, certain divisions can be very short sited into future business opportunities. They are not willing to work with new customers if it requires any change or adjustments. Sonoco makes it hard for customers to do business with them because they are still very old school in their approach.

    Advice to Management

Pick a strategic path and have confidence in it and communicate it. The strategic plan from corporate was never adopted at the division, no one truly believed in it. It was a common joke that not to worry about it as it would change in a month. This disregard is eating away at the companies base values.

    Pros

Stable company with great benefits. Lots of great people.

Many times long term employees who have been loyal & worked hard aren't given developmental opportunities. Always looking for young grad students, but these aren't the folks who will be here long term.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your long term employees; we have lots to give but aren't given the opportunity.

I have been working at Sonoco Products full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work culture. For the most part, co-workers are great to work with: personable, smart, respectful.
The work is a mix of b2b and high end brand work that provides a nice balance and gives me the opportunity to have a broad focus.

    Cons

    Compensation and benefits are average.
There has been a lot of turn over in management and while each new person has something to offer the team, it creates a lot of overhead in process change that impacts the work.

I have been working at Sonoco Products full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good company to work for with lots of growth.

    Cons

Too much going on and not enough structure, organization, and teamwork between management and departments. No work life balance offered. Some unprofessional personalities in the office.

    Advice to Management

Focus on one big area before you move on to the next or have leaders strong enough to lead multiple projects.
