    Pros

Great place if you are driven and like to stay busy. No micro management and left to learn and get your work done. Benefits are top notch and team is solid across the board. Lots of engaging and interesting clients of all sizes with interesting problems to solve. Seems like there is always something new to work on technology wise.

    Cons

Schedule is up and down some times it's super slow other times it's super busy. Very hard to ramp up new resources quickly when busy time hits. Number of Sr resources are limited as they promote growth from within. It's consulting so you have some good projects and some bad ones and hard to know what you will get. Sometimes you have to roll with it.

    Great people, AWESOME company

    Pros

-People. Plain and simple, everyone here is smart and driven -Company. Sonoma really treats you like part of the family and you always feel valued -Sense of purpose. Everything is done for a reason instead of something that just needs to be done. No tedious tasks or wastes of time here -Communication. Access to upper management is easy and your voice is always heard for both positive and negative feedback. -Office. Love the casual workplace that allows you to just come in and really focus on the tasks at hand. Also having the flexibility/option to work from home 3 days a week is awesome.

    Cons

This isn't really a "con" and I think this goes for all small companies but this is not a place to be if you just want to glide by and slip under the radar. If you don't enjoy working hard and working as part of a team, Sonoma probably isn't the place for you.

    Disappointing place to work

    Jul 16, 2013 - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

There is a policy allowing you to work from home 3 days/week which is very nice. The company is setup to allow for remote work so there is less travel than a lot of other consulting firms. The people are very nice and the community in Chicago is great.

    Cons

Sonoma Partners has a "rule by fear" mentality. A lot of employees end up getting official warnings that will allow the management to fire you if you mess up anything. This causes people to be scared to make any mistake and a lot of the employees walk on eggshells. Additionally, there is very little room for movement in your career. Even though it's a small company, they are reluctant to give promotions. A few people left the company because the only way the could get a promotion was by moving jobs. Lastly, their pay/benefits are below market standards. You will not only take a pay cut to work here, but your pay will not increase at the same rate it will at other firms in the industry. The first two years you will only get 3 weeks of vacation/sick time combined which is not competitive with other firms.

Awesome Culture, Smart People, Good Reputation

Feb 10, 2017 - Senior Account Executive in Chicago, IL

    Pros

    - Lots of autonomy in the sales role - Highly communicative/collaborative relationship between sales and delivery - Community culture in the Chicago office - Defined strategies in the market space - Transparency from upper-management - Location, Location, Location - a block from both Ogilvie and Union Station

    Cons

    - More a matter of preference, but a good FYI. Employees are asked to come in the office 2 days a week. If you're a WFH exclusive person, maybe that's not for you. If you're a 100% office person, the office will be pretty empty on some days. If you like coming in the office only a couple times to catch up with folks - this is exactly what you want.

Great place to work and grow in a collaborative environment!

Mar 5, 2015 - Quality Analyst in Chicago, IL

    Pros

There's a great focus on professional development, with coaches finding out what you want to learn more about and work with and finding a way to help you do just that. It's a very fun, productive, inventive place to work. Benefits are nice, the schedule can be easily flexible when not too close to deadline. Track to promotions and growth opportunity is spelled out from minute one, and there is a huge focus on building the basics to help you be successful.

    Cons

Some projects are with difficult clients, and you can be stuck on them for a while. Often there is an ebb/flow in the varying departments, leading to slow periods then crazy busy periods. That's just the nature of consulting though. Communication is generally pretty great, though there's a bit of a divide and some miss communications between the departments, ie: consulting, developers, quality analysts, etc. Overall, the company is very willing to work on improving areas their employees find less than perfect, which is great.

    Pros

I have been working here for a little under a year and I have nothing but great things to say about the company! They offer amazing benefits and perks (flex scheduling and work from home)!

    Cons

The environment is fast paced and some people may feel stressed by this, but it is a great place if you like staying busy!

    Pros

Work with smart, hardworking people. Everyone contributes and helps each other out. No red tape. Flexibility is hard to match. Overall benefits are top notch. Company has invested in additional practice areas with the future in mind.

    Cons

It's consulting which can be stressful at times. Some clients are great but some are tough to deal with. It's not for everyone...

    Development friendly company

    Pros

    1. Co-workers are bright, capable, and willing to help get the job done. 2. Challenging, thought provoking projects to work on. 3. Ability to participate in projects by wearing multiple hats. 4. Clear focus on getting the job done in a practical, customer focused manner. 5. Most work is done at the company offices and at home. Light travel when compared to competitors in consulting space.

    Cons

    1. Pay is average at best. Will likely be offered lower than average salary relative to competitors in consulting space. I found this especially true when comparing to what peers salaries/responsibilities were at other firms. 2. Expect 45-50 hour weeks as a long term trend. Fairly standard in consulting, but the 40-45 is not correct. 3. Review process is questionable. Received negative performance feedback while I had multiple clients try to hire me during or after engagement on said projects.
