I have been working at Sonus Networks full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Interesting work, a product with somewhat-shaky beginnings that steadily got better and has gotten pretty good, good people to work with, and an Engineering culture with a deeply-ingrained "help when someone asks you" ethos. Crunch time happens sometimes, but usually not too long (at least for the testing people, not sure that's true for Dev), and managers generally realistic about what can and can't get done in what time frames.

    Cons

First line managers seem to get overloaded with extra jobs, sometimes that means they don't have much time to manage their people. And as far as I could tell, only the testing group ever hired in any managers from outside, there are good points as well to that but it means innovation can be difficult.

"Genband has acquired (yes, merger is myth) Sonus and anything that was good with Sonus is evaporating way too fast."

I have been working at Sonus Networks full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good people. Okayish work. Not challenging, but once in a while product complexity will give you a kick and fun. I have done maybe 3 challenging cool projects in 10years, which is not bad. But it's people with whom you will spend 8hrs that will and has so far kept me here for last 10yrs. Not everyone is a gem, but mostly reasonable folks and few gems in every team.

    Cons

New benefits are Genband inspired and simply suck. They are so bad, mid level employees are easily down with $10k per year of salary towards avg medical costs. In future they are going to suck more. HR is totally Genbandis and cheaper cost is their only objective.

    Advice to Management

Ray/Kevin - We don't expect too much from you guys. We know Sonus is not Google or FB. But please don't make it a ultra-cheapo services company. Because of these fellow employees you guys make money and not other way. Show some spine for Sonus folks.

I have been working at Sonus Networks full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This company has suffered from years of mismanagement. But the people that work there are awesome. The benefits were great too.

    Cons

Sonus and Genband merged to form Ribbon Commuinications a.k.a. Nortel Networks. It's a completely different company. The first thing to go was benefits. Trading Blue Cross of MA for CIGNA was a terrible idea. It's such a shame. Oh well, nothing lasts forever.

    Advice to Management

    Why, they wouldn't listen anyway.

I have been working at Sonus Networks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great work/life balance.
    Smart driven employees.
    Relaxed but focused culture.
Seems to be trending upwards and becoming the global leader in the industry.

    Cons

No inspiring incentives to help create a more motivated atmosphere.
Have no idea how to explain what the company does to other people.
Dull (but still good) corporate atmosphere unlike other companies in the business

    Advice to Management

Introduce incentives, like the option to work from home once a week or raffles for Red Sox/Celtics tickets, or something of that nature, to reward the hard working employees; which makes people enjoy working at Sonus and they'll work even harder.

I have been working at Sonus Networks full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

flexibility- most employees work from home at least once per week and many work from home much more than that. Managers allow for doctors appointments or attending an event without much concern. As long as the work gets done, when and where it gets done is not an issue.

    Cons

At times the direction or a 1-2 year plan is not clear

    Advice to Management

Be present- manage by walking around and talking to us. We want to see and talk to the executives.

--- I am an Intern at Sonus Networks for 7 months where I had a great experience.

    --- Wonderful Environment.

    Cons

The only thing I can think is that - Sonus Networks is far away from the Boston City.

    Pros

Work life balance, Friendly environment, Solid Benefits except 401k

    Cons

Lack of 401k, Future direction is hazy

    Advice to Management

I think they are doing a great Job. But there are some pockets of middle management that just go through motions it seems

I worked at Sonus Networks (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work. Very understanding and helpful subordinates, not so much of a fun place, but there's total independence. You Manager was super understanding and didn't burden his team too much.

    Cons

More socialising and fun activities to build rapport among team members is required. The team members need to know each others at a more personal level.

    Advice to Management

Facilitate more events to encourage socializing among employees.
