I have been working at Sonus Networks full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

flexibility- most employees work from home at least once per week and many work from home much more than that. Managers allow for doctors appointments or attending an event without much concern. As long as the work gets done, when and where it gets done is not an issue.

    Cons

At times the direction or a 1-2 year plan is not clear

    Advice to Management

Be present- manage by walking around and talking to us. We want to see and talk to the executives.

I worked at Sonus Networks (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work. Very understanding and helpful subordinates, not so much of a fun place, but there's total independence. You Manager was super understanding and didn't burden his team too much.

    Cons

More socialising and fun activities to build rapport among team members is required. The team members need to know each others at a more personal level.

    Advice to Management

Facilitate more events to encourage socializing among employees.

I have been working at Sonus Networks full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The roles offered within Sonus Networks are quite challenging, but very satisfying and rewarding. The company is on the upswing and things look fantastic. The people who work here are smart and energetic. I cannot think of another company I've worked for, were I've felt so proud at the end the day. Truly lucky to have found such a great company to work for.

    Cons

Still dealing with growing pains from past rocky years but things are getting better. Workloads are slightly on the heavier side. Trying to squeeze in 50 hours worth of work into 40 hr work week, but it is quite manageable.

    Advice to Management

Continue to grow the brand and strengthen the Sonus name. Got to get the Sonus name out there and show people what a great product you have. In business you either grow or you die.

I worked at Sonus Networks (More than a year)

    Pros

Great team in Fremont. These guys really know the market and are some of the best VoIP/SIP engineers on the planet. The west coast operation has a very open culture with absolutely NO siloing.

    Great products and services.

    Cons

Sonus was (while I was there) unable to really capture the market. Other competitors, with inferior products, have been able to execute in the market where Sonus hasn't.

For the most part, people are just commodities to be bought, sold, and traded. Very little recognition for anyone except managers, directors, VPs, or if you have managed to secure a patent.

    Advice to Management

    (1) Get off the stick and engage with the customer, close the deals, quit playing shell games with revenue just to show a profitable quarter. Be honest with your employees and the shareholders!!

    (2) Get engaged with your employees, learn to recognize them for the valuable resources they are and give some recognition and positive reinforcement to the troops.. that means the people in the trenches. Ray: take a lesson from Undercover Boss and go spend some time with your troops and really learn what they do for you. You're a great communicator, but you don't lead from the front. Be a Douglas MacArthur/Omar Bradley, lead from the front and get engaged with your troops.
