I have been working at Sony Electronics full-time

    Pros

The benefits are amazing here at Sony. The environment is inviting and engaging. I applied for a few positions before I received this position. This is like a dream job. Some of my favorite parts: Engagement events, farmers market, car wash, on site cafe, on-site Gym and so much more.

    Cons

There are many meetings but I have come to realization that it creates a better environment for collaboration and inclusiveness.

I have been working at Sony Electronics full-time

    Pros

    Good products
    Nice working environment
Lovely team of people at mid-junior level

    Cons

Widespread sexism - females in the office are quizzed about 'family plans' by senior management and speculative judgements held by mostly senior Japanese management toward working mothers. If you are a female, have children, are married and of childbearing age you will be judged if you want to move into a new role or progress your career in the business. There have been several cases in the past year where female co-workers were told either; a) that an internal vacancy was not right for them by the hiring manager because they were married, b) that a working mother would not have any career progression if she decided to choose part-time working hours (equating to 30hrs/week) , c) a female employee made to feel she owed an apology to Management for attempting to move roles internally whilst pregnant d) female employees asked about their family plans and whether they are planning any children by Senior Management.

    Advice to Management

Sex discrimination is a real and serious problem and needs to be taken seriously. You cannot brush or diffuse such cases branding them as 'cultural differences'. It's 2018, many workplaces support flexible and part time working for mothers. There should be no excuse for this discriminatory behaviour.

I have been working at Sony Electronics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very Open Door. Leaders are understanding and practical while setting high expectations. Tons of talent initiatives and growth opportunities are making us a best place to work. San Diego, CA site has an outstanding building: Starbucks, cafeteria, gym and so many other great amenities such as a car wash, vehicle charging stations (no cost) and a farmers market. Our rewards and recognition program gives out Sony products. We have had multiple employees win a 65" TV. Community driven as well. Plenty of opportunities to volunteer. Like anything, if you put your best foot fwd, think big picture and be detailed, you will go far.

    Cons

Meeting after meeting. Have to really prioritize to be prepared for meetings and have your materials ready.

I worked at Sony Electronics full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good company to learn and start a career, the benefits are good and there is opportunity to change roles inside the organization while you are on the entry level stage.

    Cons

Very political organization, the quality of the top management is very bad, there is no clear long term direction and no coaching from their side to their staff. Unfortunately over the years they have made very clear most of the management positions are reserved for Japanese employees.
