I worked at Sony Mobile Communications (More than a year)

    Pros

While working for Sony Mobile I loved the flexible schedule. The team we worked on was great. We had a great product and I loved working with different people each day while representing different accounts. With my direct management I never felt micro-managed.

    Cons

While I loved our product when we had issues the developers didn't pay much attention to our advice even coming directly from the field and our customers. In the end we were issued fire drills for seemingly no reason. We had a very talented team of individuals but I felt upper management could have listened to our ideas a bit more.

    Advice to Management

Listen to their employees more. Like I mentioned above we had a team of very talented individuals who at times I felt were going unheard.

I worked at Sony Mobile Communications full-time

    Pros

The people are great to work with. It is an interesting culture of Japanese and Swedish expats with silicon valley engineers. Everyone is very respectful and works together as a team. There can be long hours and tight deadlines, but you will feel the need to contribute since everyone is working hard alongside you.

You will be working with some of the smartest engineers and managers keeping the work interesting. I really enjoyed working here.

Management is supportive of people taking time off to rejuvenate, more so than any other tech company I have worked for.

    Cons

Every decision seems to require consensus and significant decisions need approval from HQ in Tokyo. There are pluses and minuses to this, but it ultimately leads to slow execution which can be frustrating in the fast moving US mobile device market.

    Advice to Management

It would be great if HQ management would continue to support the team in the US and give it the autonomy and resources it needs.

I have been working at Sony Mobile Communications (More than a year)

    Pros

Great working class people. They are dedicated to getting the job done even without management support.

    Cons

Sony used to be a brand to be reckoned with, but they have slid into the circular file. How can a company with so much experience do so badly? I don't know. Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on them since we all know the telecom business is a tough one, controlled by companies like Samsung and Apple. Without serious marketing funds no one can compete against those players.

    Advice to Management

Don't hire people when you know you are going out of business.
