I worked at Sony Pictures Entertainment full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company to work for. Good benefits, great campus, and great to spot celebrities and shoots from time to time

    Cons

Some departments are just ok being mediocre. No room for growth, which makes good talent leave to other competitors; studios, agencies... Management has no clue what they are doing and are always shuffling hoping something will stick to the wall, instead of fixing the real issues with in each department. Very low morale throughout the studio, and always layoffs and they expect you do do double the work with no upside for the employee. Unsatisfied.

    Advice to Management

Look at your staff, who's there to work and who actually cares about the work they are doing. Who is getting involved throughout the studio. It seems only mediocre staff who are just there for a paycheck are able to stick around. Sad...

I have been working at Sony Pictures Entertainment full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great campus to work on (free gym for FT employees), new commissaries, movie screenings, etc. Colleagues and bosses are generally good to work with/for. Benefits are solid (medical/dental/vacation and "backup care" which is a discounted program to utilize the Sony child care center for 10 days year or call services for take care of an elderly parent or chlld at home for 10 days). Child care is also available but is pricey.

    Cons

As an admin, your fate is often tied to your boss. It's difficult to get a promotion even if it's merited. It often feels like a govt position where you just show up and get paid regardless of work quality. Sony is a huge company and it takes time to establish connections in the company - finding the right people to respond can be a task. I've seen people with poor output/performance stay on with no consequences and good employees not rewarded.

    Advice to Management

Reward high performing employees and address problem employees

    Pros

Great lot to work on with nice perks for employees and excellent location in Culver City. High profile projects.

    Cons

Terrible corporate, top down structure. Lacks good leadership. Advancement within studio is awful. Huge generation gap hurting productivity.

    Advice to Management

Time to recognize that people under 40 are not wanting to do things the same way. Give youth a chance.
