I have been working at Sony Pictures Entertainment full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Coffee Bean on the Lot. And SOME coworkers don't make you want to kill yourself.

    Cons

Literally everything. This place has been in chaos for years, and only getting worse by the month. Management is bloated with a bunch of out of touch bureaucrats who just sniff each other's butts but don't actually do anything, and the staff is mostly very junior and completely unprofessional. Feels like junior high band camp. But worse. Management protects each other to a ridiculous degree. There are people in Senior roles who have been reported to HR by multiple direct reports. And what happens is the direct reports leave, and the managers get to stay because HR does nothing. Morale could not be worse.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of yourselves. And get rid of your harassing senior staff. Stop keeping known harassers around running teams. Make HR actually do their jobs. When you fix that, start looking at the terrible movies you greenlight, and maybe then you'll begin to realize why the studio has been doing SO BADLY.

"Great company, not so great department"

    StarStarStarStarStar

    Pros

Company perks - free movies, company events, on-site medical and dental, occasional set visits to television shows. On-site dining, company store, coffee bean.

    Cons

The coordinator is actually an assistant. The upper management does not want to help the coordinator grow because they want the coordinator to assist them. Constantly undervalued, verbally abused and no room to grow.

    Advice to Management

The coordinators are here to make YOU look good. Learn how to treat them better and they'll be loyal to you.

    Great people, lots of perks

    Cons

Research department is limited, not a lot of opportunity for growth

    Pros

They really made an effort to create a culture on the lot. I've had staff who have said they couldn't wait to get to work on Sunday evening.

    Cons

It's a hollywood studio and sometimes the movies just don't do well.

I have been working at Sony Pictures Entertainment full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-The lot is actually a rather wonderful location to work. The on site gym, commissary and coffee shop make things really convenient.

    Cons

    -Insane level of politics
-Fear base culture that perpetuates bullying and mistreatment of employees
-Insane hours in some departments with no concern for an employee's work/life balance

    Advice to Management

Blow this whole place up and start over! The films being green lit are dismal at best. The fear based culture kills creativity. This is a poorly managed company that is hemorrhaging money since they can't figure out how to function in the new climate. Please get rid of the old regime who get paid exorbitant amounts of money to bully everyone and make poor decisions. Sony should bring in some new, younger management who can think ahead of how to monetize the companies assets in the new digital era.

I worked at Sony Pictures Entertainment full-time

    Pros

Sony is a great working environment with excellent benefits and a lot of opportunity for advancement in many areas across the television and motion picture divisions.

    Cons

It's often difficult to move to a different department within the company through Human Resources - you generally have to know someone internally in the new department. Some areas can be a little "clicky".

    Advice to Management

No advice to management - each area operates differently, so it's difficult to be specific. It all depends on the manager of the department.
