I worked at Sony PlayStation as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Discount on games and console hardware. That's it.

    Cons

Lack of competency at C level and manager level. Departments are silos with managers protecting their own turfs at the expense of the whole company. Company culture is one of "I don't know what you are doing and I don't care as long as my project goes forward." Best talents leave and incompetents stay behind and walk the halls like dinosaurs.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with candidates at the job interviews. Don't paint a rosy picture just to get people in the door.

    Pros

Experience in testing, free soda, up to date on all gaming trends.

    Cons

The groups are clicky and group oriented. Easy to not fit in

    Advice to Management

Stop the high turn around and cherish your employees

I worked at Sony PlayStation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most permanent QA testers stick around for a long time and no one quits volunteerly.

    Cons

There are some child-ish customs and regulations set by the management at FQA department (set by the supervisor).

    Advice to Management

Some of the Sr. testers sit by the corner can surf the net all day without being noticed. They should be taking more leadership in the department and put more efforts into what they do.

    Pros

    It's an easy job.
It is considered experience in the video game field.
    Casual dress.

    Cons

This is only as a QA tester. Intimidated into working overtime. It was alluded to that you would lose your job if you opt out (which I did after 6 straight months of doing it). Overtime was, and is common to be 12 hours a day 6 days a week and an 8 hour shift on Sundays. I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel issues in both of my wrists due to this overtime but was still asked to do the overtime as soon as the doctor released me.

    Advice to Management

Consider the health affects that are caused by that amount of overtime.

    Pros

Nice people, flexible schedule. Paid Christmas shutdown. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Every time employees hear that the company doing very well, number one on the market. Bonuses are very low. Chaotic communication between groups and departments. Low salaries. Very difficult to get noticed and rewarded.

    Advice to Management

Take care and reward people. Have ro work on communication issue and general managment process in the groups.
