    Pros

Liked the people I worked with. Everyone genuinely wants to do great things but efficient decision making is lacking. Great bonuses. Fun environment.

    Cons

Lots of politics in a local and global level. Slow to create progress or make decisions, which almost always bars creativity and great work from being completed. You do the same thing all the time with every program. Pay is far below industry average. A. If culture of fear.

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to micromanage less and develop career progression.

I have been working at Sony PlayStation full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Anything that PlayStation makes you get for free! Very generous PTO policy. Company is closed between Christmas and New Years with pay. Cool products and great brand recognition. Merchandisers get to make their own schedule with some parameters.

    Cons

Being a merchandiser used to be a fun job. You got to meet different people and every day was different. But now all we do is go to the same store every weekend and demo VR. My work life balance has gotten really bad. I work almost every weekend and I often work 8 days in a row or more because I am still expected to perform my normal duties along with the weekend work. I am getting burnt out.

    Advice to Management

I understand that launching a new product is hard and you want people to get to experience it, but it should not be at the expense of your field workers. We are the people who promote your brand and if we aren't happy then no one is going to be happy.

    Pros

    Friendly work environment

Great company perks like happy hours, company events, holidays, etc.

Great brand with a lot of pride in the work, work is extremely interesting and fun

Company is doing well as a whole

    Cons

Do not contract here - they treat contractors differently than they do FTE. There are no guarantees you will be hired once your contract is up

Very political culture as is every big company - hard to move up in the company if you do not have the right 'relationships'

Management only looks at success based on team as a whole - does not look at specific individuals (aka there are a lot of terrible managers that slip through loopholes)

    Advice to Management

Ask employees to review their peers - do not keep it within a specific team (no subordinate will talk badly about their manager as it will always come back to them)

I worked at Sony PlayStation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you have a passion for gaming, and love working in a dynamic environment, there's no other place to be!

    Cons

There is a disconnect of business goals between the various stakeholders and management, resulting in endless discussions about appropriate resource support. But with new management, this could be changing...

    Advice to Management

Take care of your people and they'll take care of you. Don't and they'll all leave...

I worked at Sony PlayStation (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great bunch of people focused on quality and innovation, good compensation and benefits, fun products. Substantially invested in employee wellness and professional development.

    Cons

Many stakeholders and many disagreements which management increasingly vocalized. Office morale became more sad and stressed as downsizing progressed and long-term employees in the building were let go.

    Advice to Management

    Thanks and good luck!

I have been working at Sony PlayStation (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good people, Fun atmosphere, Flexible environment, Events, Discounts

    Cons

    Low pay
    No benefits
Lack of opportunities to move up - despite their facade of "attempts" to promote.
    Layoffs abound
Be prepared to do the job of a higher paying position, without the pay increase, benefits or title.

    Advice to Management

Change from the model of "short-termism" to save a few dollars on the immediate bottom line. Treat your workers better for the long term, which will increase productivity, quality and the future reputation of the company.
