I have been working at Sorg and Associates P.C. full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The studio is comprised of hardworking people who truly give a 110%. The effort is worth the reward, Sorg encourages growth, both professionally and personally. They are understanding, flexible, and though the work is challenging at times, Sorg tries different things throughout the year to have a little fun and encourage the staff to partake in each activity. These can be both big and small, from happy hours to Canstruction...

    Cons

I think the biggest challenge is the workload, though easily overcome with the right work ethic and mindset.

I have been working at Sorg and Associates P.C. full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nice Studio, Free snacks and drinks, Location on U st

    Cons

Everything else, ineffective and tone deaf management, lack of opportunities for personal or professional development, micro-management, constantly lurching from crisis to crisis, no opportunities for design, management truly does not care. I really thought the poor reviews on here couldn't be real, I paid the price for my naivety.

    Advice to Management

Stop writing fake glass door reviews in an attempt to trap people in this cesspool. Just listen to you staff, be transparent, genuine, and open to change. Don't create a cast system atmosphere where most of your staff feel like dirt, value employees more, act like a small firm instead of pretending and failing to be a large firm, be open to collaboration, follow through on "open door policy" by making time an accommodating...

I worked at Sorg and Associates P.C. full-time

    Pros

Free snacks, coffee and soda. Sunny studio.

    Cons

All grievances are management related. There are some good people are Sorg, but any positive interactions with them are eclipsed by the management. The work environment is often tense, especially when the principal is around. She can't even waste the energy to talk to employees in a clear voice, looming around and mumbling in your direction expecting you to know that she's talking to you. She will only raise her voice...

I have been working at Sorg and Associates P.C. full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There is an atmosphere of diversity, new opportunities, encouragement, family appreciation, hard work and fun is never far away.

    Cons

I have no 'cons' but I can say you will never be bored!

    Advice to Management

Although there is always an open door policy, sometimes we all get so busy we fall a little short on communications.

I have been working at Sorg and Associates P.C. full-time for less than a year

    Pros

They pay you, I guess. But so does McDonalds.

    Cons

Over bearing management! Ridiculous work hours. Micromanagement. No design opportunity. Nasty studio leader. Single principal makes every decision. People are constantly being let go. They tend to hire from outside the area because people don't know the reputation outside the city.

    Advice to Management

Say Hello to your staff! Wake up, your employees hate you! Having a lousy happy hour once every 2 months does not a nice atmosphere make. Playing paper rock scissors is stupid we are not children!

I worked at Sorg and Associates P.C. full-time

    Pros

Working hours here can be okay; I got away with about 40 per week. They throw occasional happy hours and company events. Many of the employees are friendly, great people.

    Cons

Compensation is typically low. The 401K program is pretty bad. It can be a hostile environment at times, working with the higher-ups. Not a particularly sociable office for young people. The biggest problem is a total lack of investment in the people, which leads to the high turnover. No financial support for ARE's, LEED exams, classes or conferences. No help or focus on helping interns with IDP. If you hope to...

I worked at Sorg and Associates P.C. full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Diversity in gender, age and ethnicity belies the fact that many have been exploited as a result of the recent recession.

    Cons

Principal an antagonistic and ineffective bully. Firm has quixotic design and management policies that stunt growth. Low salaries and high turnover inhibit retention, lead to numerous foibles for time and resource-strapped quality assurance staff. Original designs are laughably inadequate and dated, often recycled from project to project without thought.

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Sorg and Associates P.C. full-time for more than a year

    Pros

After you deal with these snobs, you’ll turn out to be a much better individual and you’ll move on to your next place with a greater appreciation for what it means to be treated with honesty, gratitude, and respect.

    Cons

This place is falsely advertised as being a collaborative environment but is more like a tyranny. It’s an extremely toxic environment where your health is compromised because of the stress emitted from upper management comprising of three inexperienced individuals – two of which are related (in other words, you can never openly express your concerns because you’ll always come off weak, or not having 'thick skin'). ...

I worked at Sorg and Associates P.C. full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Honestly the most compelling reason I can think of to work there is that the main studio has high ceilings. However I find the best part of Sorg is the logo on their business cards, which I would be very surprised to learn that they designed themselves. Both points are essentially meaningless.

    Cons

Woefully undercapitalized business, as in one notch above insolvency at all times. This is never a good thing to see for any job seeker in any profession. Totally unprofessional environment. Lack of respect for fellow professionals. Poor or nonexistent mentoring, which is a condition highly important to the future of the architectural profession and a key part in a firm's success or failure. Office culture is toxic bordering...

    Advice to Management

My advice to management would be to go back to school and study Business Administration and minor in Human Psychology. I mean truly study this time. Then hire some good designers and pay them accordingly. You must at some point learn to treat the staff more humanely, or you will continue to be a revolving door and perpetuate the generally negative reputation you have cultivated. Understand that some of your staff endured...

    Pros

You are surrounded by smart motivated people, and their is always something new and challenging waiting around the corner

    Cons

You don't get to work on a project from start to finish because jobs are constantly being jostled around to accommodate the relatively small staff compared to the workload.

    Advice to Management

When reviewing each person, say for annual reviews, have colleagues and peers provide feedback in addition to upper management. Also, allow 10% of the workweek to work on special r&d projects for increased autonomy in the office.
