Pros
Smart and generous people. Great product. Interesting work. Mission-driven. Relatively transparent. Nice office space.
Cons
Lack of engineering leadership. Talented people leaving with frustrations over product/engineering org structure. Roles can be quite narrow, with limited opportunities to broaden experience.

Pros
This company rocks. ( I mean that, figuratively AND literally.) The people here are SO friendly and down to earth. The NY office is beautiful and spacious. Typical work hours are from 9:30-6, but everyone seems to work within their own schedule. It's just so refreshing to be at a company where everyone is actually passionate about the product, and believes in a common goal. The perks are INCREDIBLE (ie: catered lunches twice a week, snacks galore, and last but not least...real-life musical instruments for happy hour jam sessions.) Need I say more?
Cons
I really can't think of any cons. However, I guess since the company hasn't really started selling ads on the platform as of yet - there's a bit of of an unknown.

Pros
Learning from talented people Free food Nice office
Cons
Company politics: ambitious people building power bases and fighting each other instead of the competition. I hear it got better since the layoffs.

Pros
The office was nice, and they organized activities to connect employees, like special breakfasts every 15 days for new folks, Nachtklub, queer parties, and such. We got 3 free lunches weekly, and the cafeteria was lovely! The vibe was awesome. They also encouraged learning by sending us to events, courses, and getting study materials. People were friendly and open to chatting and brainstorming new stuff.
Cons
There aren't many growth opportunities, and despite having many benefits (free lunch, German classes, semi-annual bonus, and L&D budget), it's not enough; the pay is a bit low. The headquarters are in Berlin, but there seems to be a differentiation between Europe and the United States, as everything important/interesting happens in the United States and not in Berlin. There were also many layoffs and quite a bit of uncertainty among employees. For months, we worked under a lot of stress, and there were quite a few disagreements with the former executives. The CEO has now changed, but I left too soon to know if it was good enough.

Cons
- Too many people left and everyone is stretched - Leadership is always in panic mode and creating more pressure - best practices in software development are mostly ignored - Company culture is to hustle all the time and point fingers when things don’t work

Pros
Great atmosphere. Management is really open to suggestions and care about everyone's input. Lots of really talented people and support from the organization.
Cons
Salaries are quite low when you match the experience and the qualities we demand out of people and what we offer as compensation. Cooperation among teams is not great.
10 - 1.0May 30, 2023Engineer 3Former Employee, more than 3 yearsBerlin
Pros
- There are still remnant of a good engineering culture. - The topic is interesting - Great and talented people work there
Cons
- Senior Leadership has always been the problem in all my years there. Incapable of taping into the potential of the great engineers it had - With multiple round of layoffs, people are understaffed and overworked - Current leadership refuse to see what is great about SoundCloud and destroys its culture, loosing most of the very experienced engineers it had.
