No Leadership Vision + Low Compensation
Nov 19, 2021 - Anonymous Employee in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The SoundCloud brand is cool. The employees (outside of the C-suite) are diverse. Good work/life balance.
Cons
SoundCloud underpays compared to other tech companies. You can't attract or keep good employees this way. New leadership came in 2020 and has yet to figure out its footing or give a clear vision of what SoundCloud is. A lot of the initiatives make no sense for a DSP and seem arbitrarily prioritized by upper management. A lot of turnover.

Cool company and products, but poorly run
Nov 16, 2022 - Marketing ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
-Brand name. -Exciting time for the business with pivoting product offerings. -Colleagues are talented and come from diverse backgrounds.
Cons
-Poor work life balance, low morale across the board on production teams, mostly desk lunches, jump through hoops to take vacation. Retention has been an issue. -Business is disorganized and a lot of processes are not built out. This would be acceptable for a start-up, not a mature business. Plus management expects you to execute as if the business is functioning fully when basic best practices have never been set up nor prioritized. -My team and all the teams I worked with were understaffed, the expectation of work was too high for the amount of resources. -Top-down “blame culture” - management is quick to point blame on the individual as opposed to being receptive to feedback and trusting / investing in their employees. -Pay isn’t great.

European company culture is implemented, providing a much less stressful work environment. Work/Life balance is actually a real thing here!
Cons
The majority of my team is out the headquarters in Berlin. So I haven't gotten the chance to meet them in person because of Covid.

People that level up are not the best ones, but the more visible/political ones Will it be profitable?

Great Leadership in Music Tech

Great leadership, smart colleagues, supportive work/life balance -- and lots of opportunities to lead / manage interesting, fun, impactful projects.
Cons
Flat organization structure, which can lead to limited promotional growth opportunities.

Pros
Super smart & passionate employees Great culture + work life balance - free lunches, great office space, flexible work schedule, artist visits The company is revolutionizing the music industry. It's definitely going places, it's just a matter of when
Cons
Cross team collaboration is difficult between departments & countries Short term goals outweigh long term company strategy Some members of senior management are a bit out of touch

Probably one of the best places i've worked at
Aug 10, 2022 - Senior Softeware Engineer in BerlinRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Everyone's experience is different obviously, but at soundcloud i've managed to have a decent work life balance and had the chance to meet some really great people. The workload is relaxed for the most part, with Friday's spent working on whatever personal projects we want. The work itself is challenging and interesting
Cons
Some issues here and there with transparency across the company given frequent change in leadership
- Current Employee★★★★★
Pros
smart people, creativity $, mission driven organization, work/life balance
Cons
low pay, limited career growth, general growing pains
- Former Employee, more than 1 year★★★★★
Overall, not worth it.

Globally known company. Brand with potential.
Cons
Be careful while interviewing, don’t be quick to drink the kool-aid, what they sell to new hires isn’t all that it seems. - Severely understaffed and top heavy organization with an ever changing/confusing business model. - Management proficiency is scarce and the lack of accountability at the senior and executive level is disappointing. - Terrible work life balance. Several meetings, long work hours, especially if you are a level 3 below. Poor for mental health. - The number of transitions and turn over have really affected company culture and morale. - Diversity & inclusion continues to be a “priority” but no one has time for it. - Salary could be better for the amount and quality of work expected. - If everyone who left SC in the last year submitted a Glassdoor review, rating would likely be much lower than it stands.
